  1. Agreed. Sign Andrus. He seems like a perfect fit and bridge to Mayer. He's actually a pretty good player.
  2. 1) Extend Devers 2) Sign Eovaldi or Kluber 3) Sign Andrus At least it'll look like they're trying.
  3. It's all a bit confusing. As I said to moon, I thought the concern with Story wasn't a lack of arm strength but the elbow inflammation. Maybe the question that was put to Bloom wasn't clear. Trying to give benefit of doubt on this one.
  4. Yankee fans liked him because he wasn't a home run or nothing guy like most of their offense, he was a guy who could get on base.
  5. I thought it was an overpay at first too, but in order for a free agent to "earn" $15 mill a year they really only have to be an average 2 WAR player, as crazy as it seems. Interestingly, a lot of Yankee fans really liked him and wanted him back.
  6. I did my very best to resolve it for ya Nick, posted a link to an article explaining the change in the new CBA and pointed out that Bloom would simply not touch him with that kind of tax hit attached...
  7. He passed in 2002.
  8. I think it's more of a health concern. He went on the IL in 2021 with elbow inflammation. It would really suck if we move him back to short and the elbow flares up again...
  9. You do not mince words, my friend.
  10. In his last 10 games of the season he had a 3.18 ERA, 3.29 FIP, .612 OPSa.
  11. They made room for Wyatt Mills, a reliever they got from KC for Wallace.
  12. Minimum wage, about $750 K.
  13. I was on that crazy train too. Just because Hoz was so cheap and it would free up money elsewhere. Oh well. I'm sure a master plan is unfolding.
  14. Does this mean an addition is coming? Edit: Yes, they traded for a guy named Wyatt Mills.
  15. Theo has a pretty good life now. No reason to mess it up.
  16. Scherzer was one. But there aren't many.
  17. OK, well that's the answer to the question - there are no good years for free agent starters. It's not that this year was a bad one.
  18. What puzzles me is why they would get rid of Lobo, a lottery ticket pitcher. Why not hang onto him and see if he develops into something? Why would you not want to do that?
  19. You're avoiding the question of what years haven't been like this. When was the great year for free agent starters? Guys who had youth, excellence, durability, affordability? I must have missed that one.
  20. I get that. But how do these transactions benefit the Red Sox? Or is it just a make-paperwork-project kind of thing?
  21. And they traded a very young pitching prospect for Park. Someone make it make sense.
  22. They're either too old, too injury-prone or too expensive. Take your pick. Bloom and the spreadsheets have generated the solution: don't sign any of them. Genius!
  23. When was this mythical YEAR TO GO BIG?
  24. Seriously, when has there been a year that there were a lot of FA SP's who weren't older or injury-prone? Are you thinking of Gerrit Cole the $324 million man? FA SP who have youth, effectiveness and durability cost a mint. So we're out on them too...
  25. The "chosen year" is a terrible concept. The Dodgers just had an incredible season only to see an 87 win team win the pennant.
