  1. After the Mondesi trade Bloom still has some money to play with (assuming they go up to the first threshold but not over).
  2. Not bad. Dumpster diving was getting a little old.
  3. Andrus was plus on both O and D last year.
  4. No, the crying is usually ignored.
  5. Well, he actually was a venerable old grandpa in baseball terms...
  6. The thing about IKF is that Cashman took on Donaldson's salary to get him. So he's invested in him, in more ways than one. I don't think he's going anywhere.
  7. Sure, but they weren't exactly proven quantities. Then when Houck finally secured the job, he got hurt. It was that kind of season...
  8. It does make a lot of sense for the Yankees to keep him around for 2023 rather than selling out on the kids.
  9. Counting on Arroyo for 140 could be a mistake, though. His history says he's injury-prone, and because he's injury-prone and hasn't played anything like a full season, he's more likely to wear down faster.
  10. I'm an OPS+ guy. 2018 135 2019 139 2020 128 2021 129 2022 131
  11. He's never been a big power guy though, other than the juiced ball year of 2019.
  12. Bogey's consistent 130ish OPS+ factors in his offensive-friendly home park. And with the balanced schedule, everyone will be facing new pitchers more. I think he'll be fine.
  13. The Punto trade opened things up for Ben to spend.
  14. You mean you don't see any OLD SCHOOLERS adjusting for luck.
  15. That was just further to the "playoffs are a crapshoot" discussion, and how a team can go from looking like crap to being red hot just like that.
  16. LOL RBI what? Nothing about OPS or OPS+ or wRC or any of the usual measuring sticks for offensive production?
  17. Yes, the reason I say the Red Sox looked lousy at the end of 2021 comes down to their last 9 games: 0-3 vs Yankees at home horrific 1-2 vs 52-110 Orioles horrific 3-0 vs 65-97 Nats clutch/fortunate - every game was tough
  18. Don't worry, any 2023 optimists are more than balanced out by pessimists here.
  19. The 2021 Red Sox looked horrible going into the postseason. They were incredibly lucky to be there.
  20. Peralta? He might be the Yankees' closer.
  21. The very fact that Bloom was hired meant JH wanted some slashing.
  22. As I understand it, FanGraphs bases WAR for pitchers largely on FIP.
  23. ERA+ is, however, superior to ERA and relatively easy to quantify and understand.
