  1. Now now, I'm trying to dial it back here, and get behind Reese a little...
  2. Ah yes, Wins Above Felipe Lopez. The things I remember...
  3. Kluber having a good game with McGuire catching is definitely a good sign.
  4. God, now we're gonna need Wind-Adjusted FIP...
  5. But a 2.93 FIP! When a FIP collides with a BABIP, who wins?
  6. They knew his reinstatement was a possibility.
  7. No, Strahm said he was going to transition to being a starter before the offseason.
  8. I don't think anyone actually said that.
  9. The Dodgers cut payroll this year but not enough to re-set. The Mets can't re-set next year even if they wanted to. The Yankees and others may be in that position too. We've entered a new phase where the real big spenders have stopped being hung up on re-setting.
  10. And his contract was reasonable.
  11. Matt Strahm could have been a nice budget signing as a starter. Ironically signed by none other than the Desperate One.
  12. Bloom is correct that it's very early. Those who say every game count are also correct. Yours truly, Mr. Objective
  13. They definitely seem to be playing the "wait till next year" game.
  14. Why? We're playing like 20 days in a row and Cora is trying to keep guys like Winckowski from having their arms fall off... Seems like sensible managing to me. It's not Cora's fault our rotation stinks.
  15. It's a pretty technical point, then. It doesn't have anything to do with the kind of quantum leap seen in Cole's contract with the Yankees, or with what Ohtani will get.
  16. According to Forbes, the Red Sox had an operating profit of $71.6 million for 2022, and the current market value of the franchise is about $4.5 billion, which is #3 after the Yankees and Dodgers.
  17. Can't complain about the Devers extension, that's for sure, IMHO. But you're overplaying the $650 million, for the reasons already mentioned.
  18. Ifs and buts = candy and nuts. I do get your point, but the other side of the argument has a point too.
  19. The neglect is negligent.
  20. And Greinke got 6 years and $206.5 million at around the same time Price got his deal. Greinke's AAV was higher.
  21. That was not a market setter.
  22. But we're middle of the pack in actual 2023 payroll, which is the first time this has happened under Henry. And they let go of Bogaerts and Eovaldi's salaries, of course. It's misleading if you don't factor in the subtractions. All depends on how you look at it, right?
  23. We shouldn't be surprised if they express interest. But going toe-to-toe with the Dodgers and Mets and whoever for Ohtani? I don't think so.
