  1. "Some folks get so into analytics that they forget the psychology involved in sports." Pretty mild, really.
  2. I'm going to get crushed about this again, but Kluber has an ERA of 7.08 and an OPSa of .916 in 7 games with his "binky" McGuire. The other guy who McGuire looked to be binky for was Pivetta, with remarkably similar results of 7.11 and .922.
  3. I don't think it was an easy decision for Cora one way or the other.
  4. Yeah, the cheapness on upgrading the rotation is looking bad.
  5. Nope. Should have signed Eovaldi instead. Easy to say from the armchair of course.
  6. notin was asking why Cora didn't use Schreiber in last night's game. I looked it up and Schreiber hasn't pitched since May 6, but there's nothing about him being hurt. So it's a mystery.
  7. Yes, but this trip to the IL was preceded by a disastrous outing in the WBC. And no one asked him about that AFAIK. Which is understandable, because it's very sensitive stuff.
  8. Folks who don't believe in clutch or choke often argue that just by making it to the major leagues, a player has confirmed their ability to handle pressure. It's a reasonable argument, but I don't think it's a conclusive one. From the minors to the majors is a quantum leap in attention and exposure and money.
  9. I'm the one who brought up anxiety. He got my post mixed up with yours, that's all.
  10. I think the kind of anxiety we're talking about here is "performance anxiety".
  11. No, that was me who brought mental health into it.
  12. OK. But you didn't answer the second question. My wife and daughter both have bipolar syndrome BTW, so I do have some experience as well.
  13. So when would you use Jansen again?
  14. I don't know how you can be so sure about this. Are you a mental health professional? What causes the yips? Can you answer that?
  15. You're saying that the 3 players' cases of anxiety had nothing to do with baseball activities?
  16. The two things are not mutually exclusive.
  17. OTOH I was reading an article yesterday about 3 players who went on the IL before this season with anxiety, including of course Daniel Bard. The fact is we know very little about what these guys go through and how they handle it.
  18. I don't disagree with you. But we all know the 2023 season and Bloom will be judged mainly on whether we make the playoffs or not. As of right now it still looks like a question of which AL East team we can beat out.
  19. All that really happened the last 2 games is that our closer blew them. Which is very worrisome, of course, but that's basically all that happened. If he did his job we'd have 2 more wins and all be feeling good right now.
  20. But notin is pissed at Cora for using Jansen again yesterday.
  21. We all know what people would be saying if Cora didn't use Jansen yesterday and whoever he used instead blew the game. I don't think there would have been many accolades.
  22. You're basically using the same kind of argument by saying that Jansen's one game sample showed he couldn't do the job.
  23. The AL Beast is unbelievable right now.
  24. That's baseball, man. It's what happens when you play every day.
