  1. No doubt the defense is inflating the ERAs.
  2. I think the simplest way to explain the difference between Fangraphs WAR for pitchers and Baseball-Reference WAR is that Fangraphs is based on what "should have happened", eliminating factors out of the pitcher's control, and B-R is based on what actually happened.
  3. Maybe not conclusions, but we certainly appear to be a team that scores a lot (5.7) and gives up a lot (5.2).
  4. Fangraphs WAR: Sale 0.6 Houck 0.6 Jansen 0.6 Wink 0.4 Pivetta -0.2
  5. I think he means Pivetta is really sucking.
  6. Houck has the lowest ERA of our rotation at 5.26. The collective ERA of our starters is 6.10. I get that there are some signs of improvement, but man, the numbers are pretty freakin' bad.
  7. The disturbing thing is that McGuire has horrible numbers with every starter he's caught. The good numbers with Crawford came after he went to the pen. Obviously most of it is a reflection on our starters.
  8. Number of wins when we score: 4 runs or less - 2 3 runs or less - 1
  9. Sorry that my McGuire-phobia is acting up again, but man, our starters have horrific numbers throwing to him. (The only shreds of hope now appear to be with Kluber.) Is it bad game preparation or something? Or is it just that our starters are really that bad.
  10. After last night Pivetta .759 w Wong (69) .922 w McGuire (89) Not much binkyness going on there, either...maybe Wong will have to catch Pivetta, too.
  11. Don't forget the Memphis Grizzlies.
  12. Yes. Technically one was the Rough Riders, which finally got changed to the Redblacks. Embarrassing LOL
  13. Golden Knights is kind of clever because it alludes to the Sin City aspects but in an oblique way.
  14. Already taken by a WNBA team.
  15. He might be selling Bello a little short.
  16. 'Twas Max who turned that into a subplot.
  17. Hah. That name, Song, has to resurface fairly soon one way or the other.
  18. Yeah, from what I hear, Oakland isn't the nicest place. The only attraction to me, ever, would have been the championship legacies of the A's and the Raiders.
  19. Looking through the play by play log of the game, I think Cora's move there was eminently logical. Schwarber had singled on his previous AB. In the 6th Houck had retired the 2 RH batters and given up a hit to the LH batter. Now here comes one of the most dangerous LH batters in the game with a chance to turn it from a 1 run game to a 3 run game. Plus, Bleier only has to get one out because it'll be the last out of the inning. Totally sound move with lousy results. Also, we could really use a better lefty in the pen.
  20. Max, I have always maintained there are times managers are put in spots where there is no obvious right or wrong move and they essentially have to roll the dice. When to pull the starting pitcher is often the toughest call to make. Just ask Kevin Cash (2020 WS Game 6).
  21. And yet you dug up those stats on Schwarber this year in the attempt to bolster your argument. You made it your "Point No. 6". Now you're backpedaling on that point.
  22. All too damn true.
  23. It's Houck's numbers by inning that present the picture most clearly and starkly. Those numbers are probably easier to grasp than "times through the order" for Mr. Average Fan.
