    No doubt. And I was generally fine with Bloom right up to this offseason. I thought this offseason was a colossal disappointment, even though I'm happy about the Devers extension, and the Yoshida signing, and the two big bullpen acquisitions. In his 4th season, Bloom should not be putting together a team that's near the worst in baseball at run prevention.

    I guarantee you JD is well aware of his issues with low and away sliders and always has been. It's just a tough pitch because it's thrown hard and moves a lot, when it's thrown correctly.

    It's pending, but a metrics guy like Bloom would have to tell you that our mathematical chances of making the playoffs are slim. Do we really think we're going to pass two of the Jays, Yankees and Orioles? Forget about Texas or Houston, there's no chance there.

    Bloom has made a lot of good moves. But there's an old saying about the whole being more or less than the sum of the parts. In our case the whole seems to be less. It's like Bloom makes every move in isolation from the other moves he makes. And that's how you end up with a team that can score but can't stop the other team from scoring.

    Cora's recent comments about the Sox not being a good defensive team sounded suspiciously like a swipe at Bloom.

    If you actually think that all you have to do to get J D Martinez and his career .874 OPS out is throw him low and away sliders, you obviously don't have a clue about baseball.

    Incredibly dumb statement. Just for starters, in case you didn't notice, teams don't just play against their own league anymore.

    It's not the individual moves, it's the bottom line results. The most damning fact about the team Bloom has constructed is that we're allowing 4.96 runs a game. Our run prevention is horrible. Starting pitching is lousy and defense is worse.

    This place is not without its issues, but overall I think it's the best. It's like therapy for me.

    Coincidentally, Kluber was named Washed Up Bum of the Month.

    Cot's has us under by 16.2 mill Spotrac has us under by 23.5 mill Roster Resource has us under by 11.2 mill, but they show Hosmer at 15.4 mill, which I'm 100% sure is an error Cot's number looks right to me.

    This is no different than the complaints about Devers swinging from his heels at everything. It's like we think they should hit .400. MLB pitchers are really tough.

    True. And these defensive metrics can be a bit wonky, of course. Speaking of McGuire, I was watching him catch Bello the other night, and he does have kind of a weird style of catching the ball. He shows the pitcher where he wants it, then moves his glove a lot, presumably to fool the batter. In any case, Bello was having a hell of a time hitting what seemed to be the target. But it was impossible to say if Mcguire had anything to do with it.

    Casas deserves time on O, but his D has been surprisingly bad. The net result is that he's been one of the worst players in baseball, unfortunately.

    No, the average WAR for a full-time position player is approximately 2.

    And Duran's fWAR is still 1.6 higher than Casas's.

    To be brutally frank about it, Turner's 0.4 fWAR makes him a below-average player. Maybe he'll get hot and change that. There's always hope.
