  1. It was the decision to trade him that was the problem, not the trade itself. Well, that and the fact they traded him to a team that was in a great position to extend him.
  2. Bloom had decent options, is the point, but decided to roll the dice instead. You just said yourself Kike cost us about 5 games this year. Are you saying that isn't on Bloom?
  3. Andrus and Iglesias were available for very little money. It was Bloom who decided to give Kike a whirl.
  4. I'm not assuming anything. Nobody can assume anything in this game.
  5. Story? We're talking about after they knew he would be out most of the season.
  6. Sale, Whitlock, Story are supposedly just about ready to play again. Either that or we're being lied to.
  7. Let's be reasonable. Nobody said that, just that it would help.
  8. The North Star is a long freakin' way away.
  9. So why not just tank? Why bother signing guys like Jansen and Martin when the team is projected to be .500 or a little better with them? So many questions without answers.
  10. If we had Blackburn, I'm sure Bernardino would pitch just as much. The guys who would pitch less have names like Jacques and Llovera.
  11. Well, it's all guesswork. My guess is he consults with Cora, and numerous others, but the final decisions are Bloom's.
  12. Don't worry, there's plenty of Bloom bashing here too. This is page 732 of the Fire Bloom thread, after all.
  13. Bloom has kind of proven to be a master of making things not happen, especially investing in the rotation.
  14. The offer we know of came between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, so a year, give or take.
  15. Quite possible, although the curious thing was that the trade happened pretty late in the game.
  16. For the casual observer of these things, can we please have some sort of one-size-fits-all term that covers both draftees and international signees?
  17. We'll never know what internal discussions were had. But I believe that when a player like Betts is involved, the owners are the ones calling the shots. The head of ops, whether he's Dombrowski or Bloom, is just a guy on salary who can be fired at any moment. The owners are the only real stakeholders.
  18. Maybe we're just being greedy. Bloom did add Kluber to the rotation this year, after all. That should have been plenty.
  19. That wasn't my scenario. The crazy thing is, Old Red seems to have it nailed better than anyone when he talks about Bloom looking for the third fork in the road. That pretty much describes the last two deadlines.
  20. And amazingly enough, Betts has been about 42% better than Machado, based on fWAR per 150 games. Betts 6.82 55.4 fWAR in 1218 games Machado 4.81 49.4 fWAR in 1541 games Machado hit the majors younger, of course.
  21. "At some point all that changed." So in your scenario, Cora may have actually talked Bloom out of doing anything. That's humorous.
  22. If anyone should be embarrassed it's Henry and Bloom. They must already be looking forward to the next meet-and-greet with the fans.
  23. I nominate for Negative Post of the Day. But seriously, this is a huge point. The Jays starters really pitched well in this series. The Jays really invested in their rotation. Pretty big contracts for Berrios, Gausman and Bassitt. Just the kind that Bloom has been avoiding like the plague.
  24. It took 26 years to get revenge for that game.
  25. Didn't sign an extension, that is.
