I'm almost sure the 4.15 mill won't go toward 2024, but if you have info that shows otherwise, link us up. It might go toward 2023 but I'm not sure about that either. This is one of the most confusing parts of the lux tax calcs.

The only thing I'm reasonably sure of is that if Turner opts out none of it will count toward 2024 (just as the buyout on JBJ didn't count toward 2023). I'm not sure about the adjustment for 2023 for Turner. It's confusing stuff alright.

We're seeing more and more contracts like this now. (Look at Wacha's with the Padres.) It gives the player both security and an opportunity to make more. Ergo, it induces them to sign. Obviously the team also figures they don't have much to lose. Turner is having a good year, so it's going to cost the Sox $15 mill. If he didn't have as good a year they'd have for him for 2 years and $21.7 mill.

Yes, they have to pay him the $6.7 mill if he opts out. That's just the way it's written.

We've got players who have been good on O but lousy on D, like Casas, Yoshida, Duvall etc. What it comes down to is...if we had better players, we'd be a better team! -

That may be so, but of course we'll never get the full story. We'll never know if a more aggressive negotiation would have succeeded. In any case, this was symptomatic of Bloom's total failure to bolster a rotation that needed it desperately.

I had the same question as 5 Gloves, of course. If all the errors are 2 bases, that makes the two scenarios identical in terms of total bases. But the OBP is cut in half in Scenario B, so obviously you have to go with that.

2021 was almost magical. Pretty hard to perform magic with the hodgepodge roster assembled by Bloom this year.

Don't know where the rumor came from, but it seems like just more evidence that things are not right in the Sox organization.

Zach Eflin has pitched 155.2 pretty good innings for the Rays. He would be leading the Red Sox in innings pitched-enormously helpful to our whole staff. But hey, the Rays matched our offer and that was that. Yes, I'm still pissed off and still somewhat in disbelief, frankly, about Bloom's offseason neglect of the rotation.

Stearns is already deep in talks with the Mets. The rumor of the Sox interest in him is a bad joke.

Sounds simple enough, if you leave out the velocity the balls are hit with, the not always predictable bounces, and the miniscule amount of time the fielder has to catch and throw the ball.

The component numbers can look screwy because they also do things called "positional adjustments" and so on. But the total numbers make sense.

It's a reasonable guess, but that's all it is. There was the rumor about "lack of communication", but a cynic might think that was a cover story. As has been pointed out many times, he seemed to do what he was hired to do.
