And FanGraphs now has his WAR at 3.6 and his dollar value at 28.8 mill, in spite of the fielding issues. -
Rest assured no one has said anything good about Story's hitting this year. But it's not uncommon for hitters to struggle for an extended period after coming back from injury.

Bloom deserved to go, I just think ownership is ultimately responsible for this mess. They don't really know what direction to go in any more, they just keep changing horses.

If you're unloading JD and Nate you just go full fire sale. They decided not to fire sale, it's as simple as that.

In hindsight, of course I would. This just leads to a rehash of whether they should have had an all-out fire sale. If you're salary-dumping your third-best hitter why stop there.

Of course we don't know what the offers were. Hard to see a team taking on $7 mill of salary for 2 months of JD and giving up meaningful prospects too.

There are a lot of different explanations floating around out there. All I know is, this team will be non-competitive again in 2024 if they don't shell out for some starting pitching.

I really don't get why such a big deal has been made of not trading JD at the 2022 deadline. So we wouldn't have paid tax that year. Big deal. How would that benefit 2023 or 2024? Do we think Henry would have spent a pile more? What's the theory there?

Impossible to disagree at this point. But it seems like Bloom was in a no-win situation, because making those kind of trades would have been contrary to the stated goal of "competing while rebuilding" - if you're competing you can't pack it in a few games out at the deadline.

Realistically it'll be one of those two at best. One of those two plus Gray or someone more in his price range.
