  1. Have to say you're right.
  2. Walker over Kluber is a delta of 8. If Cot's is right, we were 11 under. (Not 100% sure Cot's is right - we'll find out in December.)
  3. Better late than never, moon.
  4. Mind you, if it was our roster, we'd be dreaming of bouncebacks from Rodon, Cortes, Stanton, Rizzo and LeMahieu...
  5. Being paid minimum wage in itself doesn't make you a plus. Any bum can do that for you.
  6. Name names please.
  7. Braves big hitters looked a little tired in yesterday's game.
  8. Hmm, let's see if I can dress this up a bit. Mediocre bat, for a catcher. Average MLB catcher hit .697 this year. Wong had his OPS over .700 much of the year. He joined in the collective fade down the stretch, perhaps as a result of fatigue from his longest MLB season, perhaps as a result of the team having the life sucked from it by injuries to Duran and Casas, and the stunning inactivity of Bloom and his cohorts.
  9. Maybe he could have signed Walker and stayed under the tax threshold though. It's just a comparison of what DD did vs. what Bloom did. DD had more money to play with, obviously. So maybe what I'm talking about has more to do with Henry's cheapskate approach than with Bloom.
  10. Kershaw has a career regular season ERA of 2.48 and a career postseason ERA of 4.49.
  11. Can we at least wait until some of that happens?
  12. Why are you so skeptical about Henry lowballing Betts or being risk-averse about it? There's a pattern of it by Henry. You would think that if JH was dead serious about trying to keep Betts he would have offered $350 mill or thereabouts. That was clearly Betts's market value at the time.
  13. Well, you're entitled to your guesses.
  14. What does Price have to do with it?
  15. If he clearly wanted free agency, why did he sign the extension with the Dodgers?
  16. Here's a Bloom vs. Dombrowski thing: While Bloom was signing Kluber this offseason, DD signed T. Walker for 4/72. Kind of a typical DD overpay. But Walker logged 172.2 innings with a 2.5 fWAR, so the 18 million was worth it for 2023 at least.
  17. If Henry wouldn't pay market value, they both had the same chance - zero.
  18. Most trades for immediate help would also have increased the payroll cost, so that may have been the actual hindrance.
  19. notin will never stop blaming DD for losing Betts, just like dgalehouse will always blame Bloom for it.
  20. Right, it couldn't have had anything to do with Henry's unwillingness to offer market value.
  21. Bloom made a dumb comment after this year's trade deadline about the Red Sox being underdogs. Varitek and Cora made fun of it. It wasn't a good look for Bloom.
  22. Hard to say. 78 wins this year. Add 2 players worth 8 wins, which is easier said than done, and that still only gets you to 86. The rest would have to come from internal improvements, which we're all hoping for, but not really guaranteed.
  23. Yep. The Rays lead the industry in getting the most for their money. Friedman went to LA and has generally kicked butt. Henry was salivating at getting in on all that. He completely set aside Bloom's lack of experience for the job. As you say he wanted Bloom and had nobody else in mind.
  24. Bloom looked the perfect guy to be the next Andrew Friedman. A guy who takes his "Rays smarts" to a team with a whole lot more money.
  25. Exactly, I think.
