I wasn't happy with this year's payroll budget, but calling 2022 and 2023 a sham seems a little excessive.

notin seems to think the biggest problem with the 2022 and 2023 teams was not doing enough at the deadline. I think when you win 78 games each year it's clear that wasn't the only problem.

Reductionism at its finest. The Red Sox finished 23 games behind the Orioles. It's absurd to suggest that's not a big gap. Winning 6 out of 10 instead of 5 out of 10 might not seem like a big difference. But when you multiply by 16 it gets big.

Look at the crapshootery going in the playoffs right now, though. The Rangers looked like toast for a while, now they're a threat to win it. The objective just has to be to make the playoffs.

The Dodgers' rotation was in bad shape going into the playoffs, but that doesn't explain their offense's futility. Maybe just some excellent pitching and game planning by Arizona.

According to my unimpeachable source, he took the Red Sox offer to the Rangers, hoping they would top it, but they offered less guaranteed money. He then went back to the Red Sox to see if their offer was still open but they said no.

It's one of them. It could also be that the "thread the needle" strategy the Sox tried to follow the last few years was just a bad idea that was doomed to fail for the most part.

The bottom line for Sox fans is that we could have signed him for the exact amount Bloom offered him, and yet we didn't. I expect Chaim counts that as one of his regrets now...
