  1. There's no argument that money is the #1 factor. I just think other factors are often in play too. Eflin took the same money from the Rays because that's where he wanted to go. He didn't even come back to the Sox to give them a chance to outbid.
  2. That all seems a bit presumptuous to me. Hell, even Nimrod was willing to have his contract reduced to join the Red Sox.
  3. They also have Dunning, Gray and Heaney. But who knows, maybe they will sign Monty. Some teams are really going for it.
  4. The thought that's really haunting me is that the Sox are being run by a big committee now, with the CBO being the interchangeable part. This theory lines up with Dombrowski's firing, because there were reports about him not playing nice with other members of the front office, even daring to exclude Sam Kennedy from baseball meetings.
  5. They haven't made a single bad signing yet under Breslow.
  6. It really is hard to say what they're thinking any more. But maybe they have some great surprises lined up for us (LOL).
  7. Another "win". Though I don't recall who we were bidding against.
  8. Probably have to count Sandoval as a "win" LOL I'm sure there were other bidders on Manny but I don't remember any details. I believe Duquette pivoted to Manny after losing out on Mussina. That turned out just fine.
  9. If the Sox had really been aggressive the last 2 offseasons we could have had Eovaldi, Eflin, Senga, Gray or ERod, all for $80 mill or less. This is what I don't understand. They're basically penny-pinching themselves into s***** rotations. But supposedly they're bypassing all these lower-cost options to blow the works on Moto - a guy they have a 25% chance of signing, realistically speaking.
  10. First of all I don't think there have been that many of them. Most of the ones I can think of were with the Yankees. Bernie Williams Mike Mussina Jose Contreras Mark Teixeira Lost all those ones! I'm leaving out Johnny Damon, I think the Sox kind of let the Yankees win that one. Dice-K. They won that blind auction very boldly. Jon Lester. Some say the Sox lost that one on purpose too. What other bidding wars can anyone think of?
  11. Carol Burnett took down Saul Goodman. She's a badass.
  12. Snell is a proven upper-level MLB pitcher. Imanaga is expected to get something like Senga did. Senga is another guy on a reasonable contract the Sox bypassed. The list keeps growing.
  13. Balderdash. Go through his 2023 game log and get back to me when you see a problem.
  14. Similarities, that is. Both were hired as Red Sox CBO's with no prior experience. Both are allegedly pitching savants. Peter Abraham says Breslow talks exactly like Bloom.
  15. It's actually scary how many similarities there are between the two, right down to the initials. The only noticeable difference is that Breslow played baseball.
  16. Gray has good numbers against the Yankees and Jays, bad numbers against the Sox, Rays and Orioles. He wouldn't have to pitch against the Sox. So that's 2 AL East teams he has struggled against. Some of that could be randomness. And with the new schedule we're not talking about that many games. Bottom line: not nearly a good enough reason to pass on him.
  17. The failed trade talks with the Mariners leaked out.
  18. I have to admit that I thought JH & Co. would feel enough pressure to make a quick signing this offseason. Boy was I wrong!
  19. Don't even know how to respond to that last sentence.
  20. Expressing disappointment that we didn't sign any of those guys isn't the same as saying they were all we needed. And how the hell is Gray, one of the best pitchers in the game last year, a punt?
  21. The problem is that the top priority may not be settled until January, and meanwhile legit targets like Gray and ERod are long gone. Lugo and Wacha were legit targets as part of a total revamping of the rotation. We're assuming that Montgomery is waiting on the Moto resolution, but that may not be the case at all. If he gets an offer he likes there's no point waiting. And as I've been saying, Moto seems like a longshot anyway.
  22. Yes, we keep saying that, and maybe we can keep doing so until the New Year. I can't help being uneasy about a plan that revolves around outbidding all the other rich franchises and/or presenting Boston as the best place to play right now. Seems like a pretty ridiculous plan, actually.
  23. I'm kind of incredulous at this point. I can't think help thinking even Bloom would have signed someone by now.
  24. Those are possibilities, sure.
  25. No, it's not strange about the Rangers. They have deGrom and Scherzer on the payroll for '24. They have Eovaldi of course, They just signed Mahle. They're in pretty good shape with their rotation.
