  1. We can always dream. Like we dreamed Bloom was a pitching savant who was going to make more out of less.
  2. That's the whole point. We're the #3 franchise in market value and gross revenue, but we're now outside the top ten in payroll.
  3. Henry and Werner are both going to be wearing their 4 rings.
  4. Fenway Sports Group does have a lot going on. Is it hurting the Red Sox? I don't know, but I'm not sure it can be ruled out any more, when you look at what's been going on with the Sox payroll.
  5. What, like "Nola money"?
  6. I thought we'd be exercising our financial might a bit this offseason.
  7. Lugo as our top signing, wow.
  8. He's going to get crazy money regardless.
  9. Yeah, but Cohen has even more money, doesn't have other investors to answer to, and is borderline crazy. If you were a Mets fan you'd be asking how anyone can possibly outslug him.
  10. If Henry wasn't interested in paying Mookie Betts, what makes us think he's going to do whatever it takes to sign Moto?
  11. Henry changed, it seems, in 2019.
  12. I humbly submit that the Red Sox have never been in an auction like this one. It's unprecedented to have all the richest teams in on the same guy at once. Plus Moto probably has some ideas on where he'd like to play. California, the Big Apple, or Boston? Think Boston wins as the most appealing destination?
  13. It's looking more and more like a losing plan. All the high rollers are in. Why would Moto choose the Sox? You really think Henry is going to out-Cohen Cohen on this one? Anything's possible, but Moto in a Sox uniform doesn't really feel probable.
  14. Will the Sox entourage be wearing Underdog shirts?
  15. So the Mets, Giants and Yankees have met with Moto. Is there are any news about the Sox meeting with him? Maybe they've thrown in the towel already.
  16. Maybe fans are angry about The Sham.
  17. As it stands right now: -We passed on 2 reasonable deals with Gray and E-Rod. -Now, supposedly, we're in the Moto auction, against all the other high rollers, which may not be settled until early January. -Snell and Montgomery might wait until after Moto signs, hoping their price goes up. I have a very uneasy feeling that we don't have a very good plan at all.
  18. It was a big change when they brought in the present value calculation for AAV. They're probably going to have to revisit it after this deal.
  19. But I'm already worried that Breslow is following the same approach. Waiting around for the right deal. Maybe the Red Sox really are being run by a committee now.
  20. The Ohtani contract is officially a 10 year contract with payments over 20 years. The problem with the Padres contract offer was that it was a 14 year contract. Kind of a fine line between the two, really.
  21. It reduces the AAV to about $46 million a year. The deferral will presumably also be helpful to Ohtani, because his off-field income is so high right now. The accountants for the two sides probably had an orgy after this deal was made.
  22. Availability is an ability, Red.
  23. Gray pitched 184 innings last year and led the majors in FIP. Who needs guys like that? Who's got $75 mill to spend on a starting pitcher?
  24. Sonny Gray was too rich for our blood at a whopping $75 million. Much better waiting around. Following the Bloom template.
  25. As of today, we still haven't had a truly exciting signing/acquisition since the days of Dombrowski. Unless you consider Story and Yoshida exciting. I might be able to get to "moderately exciting", at best.
