  1. Some would say he only did what any self-respecting individual would do in the circumstances.
  2. The latest word is that the Sox could definitely sign Montgomery but have no plans to.
  3. Right, Cherington only left because he was a crybaby who didn't appreciate the new opportunity he was being given.
  4. Which is fine. But there's no getting around one thing, which is that the Sox have been replacing their CBO every 4 years while everyone else in that front office seems to stick around and even get promoted...
  5. I mean, if the mandate given to Bloom was to "rebuild but compete", there are obviously going to be situations where the two goals are completely at odds with each other, like the Turner/Cabrera trade that didn't happen. Maybe "rebuild but compete' was just a bad strategy to begin with...
  6. But not so much if the indecisiveness was from the whole front office. We just know so little about what the hell is going on there.
  7. And I'm not convinced Bloom didn't get screwed over and scapegoated by Henry and company, especially seeing how this offseason is going so far.
  8. Here's the thing. You blame Bloom for not doing more to help the 2022 and 2023 teams at the deadlines. But after Bloom was fired we got the leaked stories about the trades that he didn't make, like Turner for Cabrera. At the 2023 deadline Turner was arguably the team MVP, while Cabrera was a struggling pitcher with a 4.79 ERA. That trade would have been about the future, not 2023. As it turns out there are more indications that Bloom got fired for not selling at the deadlines than for not buying at the deadlines. But you blame him for not buying. I'm with you on that, actually. But the evidence is that Bloom didn't really know which way to go. How much of that was his fault and how much was the fault of the rest of the brain trust we'll never know.
  9. Not signing any starting pitchers for more than $10 mill was arguably a very bad plan. JBJ, Story, Yoshida, Kike at short, there's plenty to choose from. You choose to focus on the deadline floundering, that's all.
  10. Bloom probably liked his plan.
  11. But why would you trade Story, if he's healthy and contributing?
  12. Lofty plans are great. They also often turn out to be no more than mental masturbation. "It's gonna be awesome!"
  13. I know. And their owners are miserly pricks who won't spend to boost the team's chances. It's not a great model.
  14. Nick thinks the new dream is to be the Boston Orioles.
  15. I know what you're saying, but starting pitching is our obvious biggest need. Our bullpen looks good, we've got some good everyday players and prospects, but not much proven and reliable starting pitching. Plus there have been a bunch of them available this offseason.
  16. It looks like the Rays did that 5 times in 2018 and that was it.
  17. Answering your own questions now?
  18. Incredible but true.
  19. And 3.86 in his last 5 starts. I'm starting to look more at Game Scores for starters. A Game Score of 50 is sorta like the new Quality Start. Cutter's 50+ Game Scores by month: April 1 May 0 June 2 July 3 Aug 4 Sep 4
  20. They probably have him focusing 100% on pitcher development stuff now, since he's not allowed to spend any more for this year. How do you like this org so far, Craig? Thing of beauty, isn't it?
  21. If a guy can give you 6 solid innings in relief on a repeated basis I'd argue he should be in the rotation.
  22. The Sox must have given Brez a 30-day time out after the Giolito signing.
  23. And that's much bolder than Brez so far.
  24. We know the answer now: Bloom was too bold and liked to spend too much.
