  1. He also said Blake Snell should get 9 years and 270 million. He's not always a fountain of solid information.
  2. That and sign a damn starting pitcher, and we're back in the mix.
  3. +1 The only really bad troll we've had here the last few years was Yankee fan "JDavis76" who started out as "Babe" on the Boston.com board.
  4. The other thing is we have to see how much loot fellow Boras clients Snell and Montgomery end up getting...
  5. Do you think this trade would even have happened without them coming on board? The new guys are loaded, the rest will sort itself out. I like my dramatic narrative and I'm running with it for now...
  6. Unless he gets blown away. The new owners might be all in on a hefty extension offer and had it in mind when they did this.
  7. The consensus seems to be that the O's did well on the deal. That's not the same as saying they gave up very little, of course.
  8. It might not do a thing for the 2024 team, but it does qualify as good news for a change.
  9. Nah, that never happens. When we traded Mookie we all knew he was going to free agency...
  10. https://www.sportico.com/personalities/executives/2024/theo-epstein-returns-to-fenway-1234765152/ Interesting development.
  11. Breslow, Bailey and the other new gurus are going to teach our pitchers to throw so hard that reliance on defense will be minimized.
  12. They had the perfect chance to do the enema and they passed it up.
  13. Both would be even more fun.
  14. I agree, what Henry needs is to be totally humiliated to the point that even he can't stand it.
  15. Maybe the "Fenway Experience" will eventually include "free" entertainment programming that fans can watch on their cell phones if they're tired of watching the un-entertaining team on the field.
  16. And like I said in the other thread, maybe the O's will also sign Monty or Snell now. What a kick in the head that would be to the stunned bunnies that make up our front office.
  17. I don't see how the 10%/5 runs thing does anything for your argument. You'd have to look at the details of why it was a save.
  18. I think moon and I did this to death already. I think I sort of got him to concede it wasn't a major overpay at the time.
  19. What would really be hilarious now is if the O's also sign Snell or Monty. Our humiliation would be almost complete then.
  20. Only thing is, the current version of the 2024 Sox looks to have an excellent chance of being even worse than the 2022-2023 teams. The plan might shift to "Fire sale and tank!" before our eyes.
  21. And the Orioles have new ownership. The hits just keep coming!
  22. Some useless fun with numbers: If the Red Sox hadn't traded Price, they would have ultimately paid him 186 million for 6 years, because he opted out of 2020 completely and thus was not paid a nickel for that year. 186/6 would make his contract only 12.7% more than Lester's 165/6.
  23. I just think you have to compare his contract to others with similar profiles, as contemporaneous as possible, and you've got perfect comps in Scherzer and Greinke. Scherzer outperformed his contract, but that's a whole different matter. That's just the luck of the draw.
  24. Well that brings into question exactly how you define 'overpay'. Compared to what? What's the point of reference? The average Joe would say all these guys are ridiculously overpaid.
