  1. There was a time wins were more meaningful. Times change. It's just the way she goes.
  2. Coincidentally enough, 1987 was the classic Nolie 8-16, 2.76 year!
  3. It would be very "That's baseball for ya".
  4. Innings pitched OPSa K/BB ratio HR rate WHIP ERA+ or - (over large samples)
  5. Yeah, but some things are just obvious. Like the Phillies giving 172 million to a guy who's 32-31 in his last 3 seasons. That's just a plain old fact.
  6. One more time - Aaron Nola was 32-31 in his last 3 seasons. That's an average record of 10.7-10.3. Dombrowski gave him a contract for 7 years and 172 million. And as far as I know, you think Dombrowski is a good CBO. You really have no counterargument to this. Because there isn't one.
  7. So a 10% variance seems reasonable no?
  8. "Ace" is the most hopelessly abused term is sports.
  9. But you guys have no answer for things like the Nola-Wacha comparison. You just try to sweep it under the carpet or something.
  10. Those numerous others don't seem to be readily available to the 2024 team.
  11. It's not just the wins, it's the W-L spread and % that Old Schoolers still love. I mean, Mike Wacha's 25-6 record over the last 2 years is a fun number, but it doesn't mean he's the guy you want instead of Nola or Montgomery...
  12. I really and truly believe you can do things that are good for both baseball and PR. For example, the Sox extending Mookie Betts would have been wicked good PR...
  13. If an Old Schooler still likes to cite ERA, I get that. But I don't get still thinking W-L record is a big deal. If W-L record really matters to you, you must think it's absolutely insane how much more money Nola got than Wacha did.
  14. OK, you and Denny are the co-chairs of the "W-L record still really matters" committee here. Aaron Nola is 32-31 over the last 3 seasons. DD must have been clean out of his mind paying him 172 million!
  15. An official offer is an official signed-off legal document much like an offer to buy a house, right? It's binding, and if the other side signs too, it's a deal, pending the inspection etc.
  16. The Sox could end up looking very smart here. They could still end up looking incredibly stupid and cheap, too.
  17. No one has a clue. I'm just not sure what's stopping the Red Sox from making an offer, like the Yanks reportedly did with Snell.
  18. Just for fun sometime we should have a look at what the Red Sox rosters this century would have looked like if you removed all the free agents...
  19. Bauer has multiple incidents on his resume, on and off the field - none of them illegal, but in sum he just seems like a guy who's way more trouble than he's worth. And his skills may not be there any more either. But the Red Sox can't sign any of these guys.
  20. It would be publicized plenty by the Boston media.
  21. The PR factor is certainly very clear cut...
  22. I thought she was on her way to Vanderbilt soon, but I'm a little shaky on my WAG fact sheets.
