  1. In a stunning development, Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford really look tired...
  2. I probably should have explained this better before. With Sale, and also with Yoshida, you have a partially sunk cost or a sunk cost portion. The money is not strictly dead, because the player still has some value or potential value, but no one is going to pay their full salary for you in a trade. So your decisions are based on the amount you can recover vs. that potential value.
  3. And his season got off to such an ominous start with the series of injuries.
  4. AKA Wingenterprayer...
  5. This is pretty amazing stuff.
  6. Well then, they should have traded Teel for the best rental pitcher they could get for him.
  7. Don't be ridiculous. They should have traded Teel for Scott.
  8. Not exactly. Their good run started in mid-June by taking 4 of 6 from the Phils and Yanks. And they took 2 of 3 from the Yanks the next time they played them. They took 2 of 3 from the Royals directly before the break. This team has been wildly inconsistent in just about every way, which is often the way it goes when you're a little better than a .500 team.
  9. Yes, it’s already been costly. But if the team makes the playoffs they'll be able to say they did enough good things to overcome it. If they miss the playoffs by 1-3 games, they will not be able to say that.
  10. And if the team misses the playoffs by a couple of games, the Sale for Giolito swap is really gonna look costly... (Sorry, I often can't resist the urge to start the day by being a s*** disturber.)
  11. The 2024 team is still in a pretty strange place. FanGraphs gives us a 37.4% chance of making the playoffs. If they're right, there's a 62.6% chance we miss the playoffs for the third straight year. But we know that even if that happens, the team's mouthpieces are going to be selling 2024 as a success because we had some exciting player developments and we were semi-in-the-hunt for a while. And best of all, we did nothing stupid that would harm the golden future.
  12. He was absolutely complicit. Silent is complicit.
  13. Yes he did, and that did take some guts, but it was also well after the fact of the 2017 championship.
  14. I don't think you can say anyone was innocent there. You need a lot of people to stay quiet to pull off something like that.
  15. That I totally understand. It's actually kind of amazing the Red Sox brought him back and have now extended him for big dough. Henry must really like him.
  16. Yeah but you're practically in the WTF Cora Club...
  17. You can Rock Em and Sock Em for pages in this madhouse.
  18. Sorry, not really sure what the question is.
  19. Yoshida had 2 huge hits against the Yanks in July, that helps to boost his cred. The game tying homer was the real deal, long AB, fouled off some tough pitches, got one he liked and crushed it. That was good stuff.
  20. Gagne was acquired to be "supporting closer" to Papelbon or something like that. Sox fans are amazing in that they still grouse about that trade even though the Sox won their second ring in 4 years.
  21. Me, no doubt, at least from the point we realized he was a DH and Bloom had signed 2 DH's.
  22. It has to be done a lot, I would never say otherwise. And if we're starting up the Richards/Kluber thing again, I'm game.
  23. Some of them definitely work out. That's why CBO's never stop diving.
