  1. Something has gone wrong with Andrew's methods. His pupils have become a disaster zone.
  2. He can't hurt. But we're kind of in the midst of a total pitching meltdown here.
  3. Hell, we'll probably get some more lectures from Kennedy and Henry.
  4. Looks like it's gonna be deja vu for Craig all over again this offseason, assuring the fans that they're going to address the pitching and be aggressive about it...
  5. moon feels obligated to give a State of the Sox statement after every game. It's been a thankless task the last few years.
  6. If Sims and Garcia were great Friday night, that was more than likely a win.
  7. Yes, Cherington was able to sign a whole basket of mid-level guys after the Dodgers trade/purge. It worked great for one year.
  8. It's certain to end by September 29.
  9. Lackey was productive in 2013, that's what I meant.
  10. Now 6 in a row and 17 out of 20.
  11. I don't think anyone will argue with that last sentence. Another thing that can't be argued is that the Red Sox championship teams all included some pricy-and productive-free agent signings...
  12. That was an ownership level move. The Boston Red Sox do not trade Mookie Betts unless John Henry gives it the stamp of approval first. CBO's come and go, but Henry is the one with the lasting legacy, like Harry Frazee.
  13. Of course it doesn't guarantee winning, and of course that's not what I'm arguing. Is there a general correlation between spending and winning? Of course there is. It would be absurd to argue otherwise.
  14. But where's the pitching?
  15. Let's put it this way, we sure haven't proven we can make the playoffs without having one of the top payrolls...
  16. I object, and I'm one of the guys who considers 2020 a legit championship season, but it was 60 games and heavily impacted by a pandemic...
  17. DD is now on his way to 3 straight playoff appearances with the Phils. He spends big but generally delivers results on the spending. And somewhat ironically perhaps, the 2024 Red Sox are built on guys bequeathed by DD - Bello, Casas, Crawford, Duran, Houck and Rafaela.
  18. The losing and last place seasons have all been under Cherington and Bloom.
  19. They were a top tier payroll team in 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018.
  20. It's not just the lack of expenditures, of course. It's that plus a series of disastrous blunders or bad luck, whichever you prefer, with Kluber, Sale and Giolito. Pure Hapless Harry stuff.
  21. Not even trying to distinguish between the two at this point. The Red Sox supposedly have a Run Prevention Unit.
  22. Yeah, we still have a 35% chance according to the projectors. I never used to be a white flagger. I was even with you in 2022 and 2023 in not wanting to sell at the deadline. I'm not the same Sox fan these days. They've made me cynical. And it goes back to 2019 and Henry's decisions to trade Betts/cut payroll/preserve the bottom line over all else.
  23. As of now the Red Sox have given up 5 runs or more in 16 of their last 19 games, including the last 5 in a row. Starting this thread with hopes it gets better, but with the realization it might not. All comments on our run prevention issues are welcome, of course.
  24. True, but you're going to open yourself up for complaints when you're a rich team with a supposedly smart organization, and you keep missing the playoffs. It creates a bias toward thinking these guys don't really know what they're doing...
