  1. Opposing hitters have an OBP of .146 vs. Papelbon this year.
  2. It really is a hell of a game.
  3. Something tells me he'd be happy to hear it.
  4. He's also hurt again. Look for him to join Bailey on the DL.
  5. Aargh...Paps argument aside, blown saves are f***ing poison.
  6. You're pulling out the 'we would have sucked anyway' argument there.
  7. I'm not saying he's a god at all. But we have been brutal at closer without him, that's for certain.
  8. The Rays are not a good example right now. Rodney blew his second save tonight and his ERA is 5.06.
  9. Of course he's overpaid. But look what we're going through with Bailey and Hanrahan. I don't have the answer but I don't buy it that closer is an easy position to fill.
  10. Hanrahan is getting 7 million this year.
  11. A vast amount not named Aceves, Hanrahan etc...
  12. Buehrle getting pounded again. Jays GM must be feeling sick these days.
  13. Stephen Drew seems to take even more called third strikes than his brother did.
  14. Need runs desperately, especially with Clay's pitch count threatening to limit him to 6 innings.
  15. Bullpens are crazy things. For a while there in the early going we looked to have a strong, deep pen. Then Aceves blows up, Hanrahan is shaky and goes on the DL, and now Bailey is MIA. And the Japanese duo are getting overcooked.
  16. f***ing Yankees were down 4-1, now 4-4. Seems like about a 98% chance the final score is 5-4 Yankees.
  17. Yes. Certainly not performance. Dude is good.
  18. Can't say I'm feeling great about today's game. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  19. Texas has always been a graveyard for the Sox, going back to the Seventies. Their record there has always been brutal. But before the Rangers got really good we also used to pound them in Fenway.
  20. They may not be pummelling us, but with a combined score of 12-1 they are handling us rather easily.
  21. If Napoli doesn't miss time because of his hip, of course, his salary will be $13 million. With Napoli at $13 million the Red Sox would be at about $173 million for tax purposes, or $5 million under the cap. But it won't be a huge deal if they go a little over the cap this year. Next year is when all the new penalties kick in and the cap increases to $189 million.
  22. Verducci makes a pretty strong case that whatever Buch has on his arm, it isn't rosin. Rosin doesn't shine like that. Verducci's position seems to be this : 'yes, he's cheating, a little...but so are many other pitchers, and that's why the Jays didn't make a fuss about it.'
  23. SI's Verducci's analysis: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20130503/clay-buchholz-spitball-red-sox-blue-jays-joey-votto-matt-harvey/?sct=uk_t11_a4
