    I think what happened in 2009 was that the Twins had to agree to call the first one an official game. The score was 10-1 so they probably said f*** it, let's try to play the second one.

    I dunno, I remembered something similar and I just looked this up...a day-night doubleheader at Fenway back in April/09 against the Twins. The first game was called after 7 because of rain with the Sox winning. And they did play the second game.

    Marcum seems like a guy who's just about done, no? The 8-inning, 1-run stint he had was against the Marlins, from the 13th to the 20th innings. Seems like teams can go into complete hitting funks in these extra-inning games, and the Marlins are not that good to begin with.

    Close enough. Tex, Hafner, Youk and Wells were a combined 0 for 28 with 12 K's.

    I don't think it means much. Anything can happen in one game. Even if it was a series I don't think it would mean much. A classic reversal was in 2007, when Cleveland was 0-6 vs. the Yankees in the regular season and outscored 49-17. They won the playoff series in 4 games.

    No, I don't think I would right now. For me, thoughts of Papelbon only arise if and when the back end of our pen looks scary. So far this year it's been very good.

    Huh? BABIP is factored into WAR, seriously? Papelbon's WHIP and K/BB are also much better than Bailey's.

    Baseball-Ref has Papelbon at 1.0 and Bailey at 0.7, which makes more sense to me based on their numbers.

    Before the season I said 84 wins on paper, 90 wins if we're really fortunate, 78 wins if we're really unfortunate. Now of course I'm hoping for at least 90 wins and the division. But it's a long long season. What I'm really happy about is that this team seems to have great intangibles. It seems to be a team that shows up to play every game and bounces back from adversity.

    Or maybe Ben's 'passive demeanor' is just a front, and he's an absolute ass-kicker behind the scenes. Your guess is as good as mine. All that matters is what's on the field.
