  1. Nava had some adventures in LF last year. He's had to do some work on his fielding.
  2. Don't you think it takes a little time to adapt to playing balls off the Monster? Maybe it would be more accurate to say that experience helps.
  3. Does he have a history as an egg shell skull?
  4. Yeah, about the best thing I can say for Sweeney is that it's pretty clear he's not a juicer.
  5. 3 for 8 with a HR.
  6. I have to say Sweeney is not one of my favorites to don the Sox uniform.
  7. The Fenway outfield is bizarro. All 3 outfielders have their respective challenges. I would agree with Jung that the challenges of left field are less to do with athleticism and more to do with experience and judgment.
  8. I don't think you can break the schedule down like that. Often it's not who you play but when you play them...who's going good and who's going s***** at the time.
  9. No matter what happens people will be overreacting one way or another. And that will continue all season.
  10. Thanks man, much appreciated.
  11. That's all true. But judging from what I see on message boards, it's infinitely more entertaining trying to analyze how your baseball team is run than it is trying to analyze how your hot dog company is run. Just start a thread on your favorite hot dog company and see how much action it gets.
  12. Well, I can understand that the Yankees feel a little desperate right now. Of the 9 players that were in their starting lineup on Opening Day 2012, they will have 2 in the lineup on Opening Day 2013. That's pretty incredible.
  13. Sure looks that way.
  14. Interesting comments there jung...you really like to look at the big picture. Supporting what you're saying is that the NL was won 3 Series in a row now. I won't be surprised to see something done to boost run-scoring. It won't be a rule change though. More likely they'll juice the baseball a bit...or teams will take the easy way Seattle did to get more balls to leave the yard...move those fences in baby!
  15. Maybe not. But I figured nobody's going to tag themselves a miserable grouch.
  16. Sometimes the traffic is lighter here than you would expect. It's an excellent forum though. I also post on the BDC forum. That place is completely insane.
  17. This is meant to be kind of a catchall discussion for people who are brave enough to try to analyze themselves as fans. Or to just shoot off about what it means to be a fan. As for the poll, please note that what it's asking is NOT how positive or negative you feel about the 2013 team specifically. It's about how positive or negative you think you are as a Sox fan, IN GENERAL. If you select 1 you consider yourself a true wearer of the rose-colored glasses. If you select 10 you consider yourself very pessimistic, skeptical, etc. I am guessing most people don't want to put themselves in one of those extreme categories. I'm selecting a 3 for myself. I try to be objective but I know I'm always looking for the positive spin on things.
  18. It's expected that the Red Sox will have Bard start the year in Pawtucket, and Mortensen will get the last spot in the pen for now. Hanrahan Uehara Bailey Miller Tazawa Aceves Mortensen When Breslow gets healthy he will take one of those spots. Morales will also be part of the picture when he gets healthy.
  19. 2 scoreless innings for Jose De La Torre, who reportedly pitched well for PR in the WBC. It would be hilarious if De La Torre ends up as a useful pitcher. He's the guy we traded Lillibridge for and is what we have left for Youkilis.
  20. 5 scoreless for Aceves today against a good Jays lineup. Promising for him as #6 starter.
  21. With the new wild card it's pretty unlikely they'll be that far out of it at the deadline. Last July 31 they were 53-51, but only a couple of games out of the second wild card spot.
  22. Red Sox starters in spring training (counting Lackey against Puerto Rico): 78.2 IP, 57 H, 22 R, 22 ER, 20 BB, 60 K. 2.52 ERA
  23. (SSS alert) Lackey's spring ERA is now 5.40. And if you count the 3 innings against Puerto Rico it's 4.29.
  24. That was a nightmarish moment before the umps fixed it. I was cringing when Tito brought Arroyo in for the 8th. It was a gutsy move, really. Arroyo was about the only reliever who wasn't totally gassed that night. Makes you realize what an awesome job it was by Schilling to go 7. The bottom of the 9th in Game 6 was no picnic to watch either. Foulke was struggling big time. I believe I was in another room when Clark struck out to end it.
  25. My wife still likes to tell stories about what a nervous wreck I was. During the games I was chain-smoking cigarettes and I wasn't even a serious smoker at the time. I was still nervous right up until the final out, and then I was in some sort of state of euphoria combined with disbelief. I had been waiting for about 35 years and I had reached the point that I had very little confidence I'd ever see it happen.
