    Disagree. Henry firing his CBO every 4 years is not something made up, it's something that really happened.

    2021 proved there was no need of a cliff, even with smaller payrolls. Just a few good moves make all the difference. Bloom made them in 2021. He did not make them in 2022 or 2023.

    The ironic thing is that Bloom, like Dombrowski, seemed to do exactly what he was hired to do but was shown the door anyway. They each made expensive mistakes, but so does every CBO of a big market team. The GOAT Epstein made 'em too.

    Rob Manfred and Roger Goodell each have the same mandate-make as much money for the owners as possible. The embrace of gambling clinched that. If you want to figure out what they're going to do next, greed has to be your guiding principle.

    Which is a blatantly circular argument. Henry obviously wouldn't have brought DD in unless it was to go for a title and spend. Let's put the blame where it really belongs - on the pale, mercurial fellow, JH.

    How much longer? He had a 2.0 fWAR this year.

    Was the Bogaerts extension good or bad? I have to go with good. They got 3 good years pretty cheap, and it's hard to say the opt out has hurt us. I was fine with the Eovaldi extension. Nate has proven he's great when healthy, with health being a constant concern. Many of us lamented that we didn't keep him. The Sale extension has been beaten to death, of course.

    An interesting discussion would be "Who are the best CBOs in baseball and why?" Right away I think you'd have to divide them into 2 groups: CBOs with fat budgets and CBOs with tight budgets.

    It's really hard to repeat in MLB, seemingly harder all the time. Hasn't happened since 2000. In 2019 we experienced some of the reasons why that is. IMHO.

    Or for what Henry was offering. Dave has never been shy about offering top of the market money for elite talent, after all.

    One thing about Dombrowski is you don't get very many mystery moves. His moves are almost always self-explanatory.

    Yeah, it's just never as simple as we'd like it to be. I think he did an excellent job given the mandate most of us assume he had.
