  1. Ew. I like coffee with Bailey's myself. Very tasty indeed.
  2. And relative to other Yankee fans, Jacko only qualifies as moderately obnoxious.
  3. If he didn't drink his way out of town in 2004 that might be different. One of the all-time funniest splits: in 2004 D-Lowe had a 4.50 ERA in night games and an 8.26 ERA in 10 day games.
  4. No you're absolutely right, Kimmi. No sense denying it. Part of the reason I watch is that some of the women players are smokin' hot.
  5. Canadian golf fans now have a potential star to root for in the women's game. 17-year old Brooke Henderson finished third in last week's event and is leading after the second round of this week's. Female golfers really seem to mature faster than males do. Much has made been made about 21-year old Jordan Spieth reaching the top of the men's game. But the #1 female player, Lydia Ko, just turned 18. I watch a lot of LPGA golf because, well, I'm a golf junkie, but the LPGA tour is really happening, in my opinion.
  6. Ah yes, the sweet science of destroying the brain matter of a fellow human. One of the last fights I watched the loser died a few days later from his injuries. Not a joke.
  7. Lester gets his first Cubs win with 7 shutout innings.
  8. Well, this should be interesting. Every single hitter in the Yankee lineup bats left-handed (including the switches).
  9. I think there is more that went into Porcello's contract than just projections of his performance. Let's say for argument's sake that Porcello's true value right now is actually $16-17 million a year. I don't think too many people would argue with that. So the question is, why would they overpay him by $3-4 million a year? One of the answers, as has already been given, is in the number of years in the contract. The other aspect is the issue of what it would cost the Sox to replace Porcello for next year. To trade for a comparable pitcher they have to give up prospects and then pay the guy. To sign a comparable pitcher as a free agent they have to give up a draft pick and pay the guy-likely overpay. Personally I think that people who don't like the deal are getting a little hung up on the $20 million number and aren't able to get past that.
  10. Bill James works for the Sox, right? I'm sure he gave them some projections for the years 2016-2019. His 2015 projections for Porcello are available. 209 innings, which is an increase. James also sees a modest improvement in K/BB ratio. Here's the funny part though - projected ERA? 4.00 on the nose.
  11. Good posts on the topic, Mr. Spitball.
  12. Also have to keep in mind that the $20 million salary doesn't start until 2016.
  13. As you know, FG valued Porcello at about $20 million for both 2013 and 2014. I believe they convert the WAR into dollars based on free agent contract values. It may seem ridiculous but FG is saying a 3 WAR player is worth about $20 million on the market now.
  14. Not much is surprising me anymore in the prices for pitching, because it's a market in the throes of runaway inflation. The amount that Lester got was fairly staggering. $155 million, a $25.83 million AAV for a guy whose career numbers profile him as a #2 (that we know is capable of pitching like a #1 for stretches).
  15. I agree that the $20 million sets a new bar for annual salary for a pitcher with Porcello's profile. However, the flip side is that the bar for the # of years in a contract for a pitcher with his profile would be 5 or 6. He got a premium on the salary and gave a discount on the years. That's the way I see it anyway.
  16. I find that thread pretty entertaining myself. However, on a different thread YOTN said he was getting sick of all the fighting here and wasn't going to put up with much more of it.
  17. What I thought was particularly egregious about the Pujols deal was that the A-Rod disaster was sitting there in the Angels' faces as evidence of why this would be a massive mistake. Next up for scrutiny will be the Miggy deal. But he is raking right now so no one cares.
  18. Good for you. You're a cold-blooded better.
  19. Did you bet on Porcello?
  20. Just another routine well-pitched game.
  21. Not so sure about that. The Cubs are 12-7 with Lester at 0-2. Nice start if you ask me.
  22. You're saying Tanaka is the key to our season?
  23. Fred, this isn't the first time you've done this. That's really senior.
  24. I'm left wondering what reliever they will recall from the PawSox next.
