  1. That's pretty cool.
  2. I agree, but I'll take it a step further. Betting with Vegas on sports will break most people no matter what system they use. Betting is one of the stupidest things people do. The house wins. When you play poker with your friends at least it's a zero-sum game.
  3. I agree, the hypocrisy is incredible. DraftKings and FanDuel are obviously gambling, and they are taking a lot of suckers' money, based on the amount of advertising they've been doing.
  4. I can't even talk about that guy any more.
  5. Nobody can predict baseball that accurately.
  6. We also have to keep in mind, the Sox are well over the tax cap and paying 30% tax on every additional dollar they spend now.
  7. You don't necessarily need a legit #2. The Royals just won 95 games and the World Series without one.
  8. But she just attributed Porcello and the Lackey trade to Ben.
  9. Did you get a Jokes About Fat People book for Christmas or something?
  10. Lights out for sustained periods is also pretty rare.
  11. The players we need to bounce back the most are Porcello, Hanley and Panda.
  12. That's a pretty big statement, because it implies that Ben is as good as Theo. To me Theo is strong in both areas, long term development and player acquisitions. Look at the solid, conservative additions he is making. Can't help but notice where both Lester and Lackey have ended up.
  13. Depends what we're talking about, right? You're saying that just because a guy has a down season doesn't mean he's going to have a better one next year, which I agree with. But that's true in all sports, isn't it? In some ways the law of averages is absolutely respected by baseball. When a guy is on a hot streak because of a crazy high BABip we know it's only a matter of time before things reverse themselves.
  14. And they're worse here. Think Boston but about 10 degrees colder every day.
  15. I feel like the law is on our side this year. The law of averages, that is. We had a lot of X factors crap out last year. This year some of those x factors should go our way.
  16. Very nice. Sometimes I wish I lived in Boston!
  17. You're right. This rotation is built on hopes and prayers after Price. Having a much better bullpen is a big help though. And I think the Sox will definitely be willing to make a trade for a #2 starter if the need and the right opportunity present themselves.
  18. It wasn't, not that there are usually a lot of great third basemen floating around. Free agency burns you most of the time anyway. Chase Headley pretty much sucked for the Yankees too.
  19. You are quite a mischievous joker at times.
  20. It was part of the package.
  21. As Kimmi has pointed out numerous times, and correctly, Sandoval was the #1 free agent third baseman available that offseason. And we certainly needed a third baseman. So while it may have been a terrible signing, there's no real mystery why it happened.
  22. Playoff numbers are generally considered to be even more variable, so even more useless. Which makes it so unlikely that they would have been a significant factor in signing Sandoval.
  23. If Ben was such a big believer in playoff numbers, he would have wanted Lester and Lackey instead of Porcello and Kelly.
  24. Sandoval had a fWAR of 3.1 in 2014, which is strictly regular season, and translated to a dollar value of $23.4 million by FanGraphs calculations. Those would be the types of numbers a guy like Cherington was looking at. Which would also explain why he went so big on Porcello - a guy who has just about zilch playoff pedigree.
  25. I think they also expected him to be an upgrade at third base.
