  1. I have to say, of all the jokes about Pablo's weight, this one did make me laugh.
  2. Baseball is one sport where some indisputably fat guys have had very successful careers. But Pablo is in grave danger of crossing the line from fat to uselessly obese.
  3. The fact that Pablo got hurt on an ordinary baseball play doesn't mean much. Guys in great shape get hurt on ordinary plays all the time. According to Bradford, Pablo will be participating in all drills today and plans to play Tuesday. Whether the team has the same plan is another story. But this may not be decided just yet.
  4. Yeesh, that's exactly why I talked about him replacing Ortiz at DH. Clear communication on the internet is f***ing hopeless sometimes.
  5. But Spud, Pablo has hit better than Ortiz this spring. Should Pablo replace Ortiz as DH? No. Because we know David's history and that he doesn't give a crap about spring games. It's never quite as simple as saying 'whoever's doing better right now plays!'
  6. I agree - our bullpen is much stronger on paper than our rotation, so we have to give Kelly another shot as a starter.
  7. It's not a bad idea, but for now he's being treated as a starter and he's been our best one this spring.
  8. It'll be interesting to see the reaction if Shaw goes into a little slump and those volatile small sample numbers take a dip.
  9. It'll be Vaz in Pawtucket. They're obviously being cautious with him.
  10. Vazquez has only seen very limited duty in spring games. He has to be starting the year in Pawtucket.
  11. I seriously doubt they trade Hanigan and go with 2 rookie catchers.
  12. Good line.
  13. So why did Heyward get 8 years and 184 million when he has a career .784 OPS and averages 19 HR and 68 RBI per 162? Isn't it because defense and base running are highly valued now?
  14. But defense and base running are quantified in WAR, and they're a big reason Jason Heyward got the contract he did.
  15. OPS this spring: Sandoval .864 Ortiz .333 Conclusion: Ortiz should retire immediately and Sandoval will be our DH this year.
  16. To me the cautionary tale on Travis Shaw might be Middlebrooks, who raked so well in his first part-season with the Sox, until the pitchers figured out how to pitch him.
  17. Today Shaw started at 3B and Pablo is DH'ing, so that's darn interesting.
  18. Probably not very long.
  19. Kelly also finished strongly last year. That said I agree that he's made of glass. I'm certainly not oozing with comfort about our rotation, but I think our overall staff is a lot better than it was last year at this time.
  20. I honestly don't know what you mean about Kelly.
  21. This thread didn't even make it through one page of staying on topic. And here it is on page 13.
  22. Pablo needs to string together some good defensive games. That's the position he's put himself in.
  23. Can't completely forget about the luxury tax though. The taxes will get crazy if they go way over the limit a few years in a row.
