  1. That hurts but it's not a shock.
  2. Score one for Jaffe. Hope he's right about the second part too.
  3. Good points, although the records of the A's and the Jays the last 2 years suggest Donaldson was anything but a team cancer.
  4. He made a historically bad trade for Donaldson.
  5. He's been hitting with power lately. Last 14 games - 7 doubles, 3 homers.
  6. A 4th starter is needed, but not essential to winning the World Series, if you look at history.
  7. What pitchers are available that there are no concerns about?
  8. I'm reminded of a sig line used by a former Sox forum poster (who went crazy, unfortunately): 'Baseball is life. The rest is waiting.'
  9. Jack Nicholson is a Yankees/Lakers fan.
  10. Stuff like that is not really unusual, especially if you don't live in Boston.
  11. FWIW, one of SI's Jay Jaffe's 'bold predictions for second half' is: 'Red Sox will shore up rotation with Pomeranz and win the AL East going away'.
  12. I believe the player has to be on the 40-man roster to count toward tax. This was talked about a lot when Allen Craig was taken off the 40-man roster. http://www.overthemonster.com/2016/1/13/10759208/red-sox-allen-craig-offseason-trade-rumors
  13. You pinpointed exactly what they were looking for in Peavy - a solid #3. And that's exactly what he was in 2013.
  14. Looks like he was only talking about the luxury tax cap though.
  15. He's a kid and the Sox already won a ring for him.
  16. Peavy was 1.3 years of control though, so that commands a bit more. Also, Iggy has been proven to be no more than a mediocre player (an accumulated bWAR of 2.9 with Detroit.)
  17. He can't focus long enough to look for where it should go. He needs Ritalin.
  18. Hill shouldn't cost a big haul in prospects though.
  19. Well, they should be doing it then.
  20. I don't think they should be bundled together, it makes our debates even messier than they already are - if that's possible.
  21. The Donaldson trade was one of the all-time robberies.
  22. I've told you 10 million times not to exaggerate like that.
  23. I think Rich Hill might be a good get. The guy has actually pitched fantastically well since last September. Beane will be trading him somewhere, that's for sure.
  24. At this point Rich Hill is looking pretty good, with fingers crossed for health of course.
