  1. Chapman blowing the save is an ominous sign for the Cubbies. They got him for that situation and he coughed it up. I thought he was a bit shaky in Game 1 as well.
  2. There was nobody, except Vazquez, and that wasn't much of an option.
  3. It's no different from the comment you made about Leon in the game thread about him looking lost and doubting he has the starting job next year. When a guy is looking bad people get down on him. You're no different.
  4. That was a great game. Anything can happen in this series now.
  5. I get that. And by the same token, 2003 can't be pinned on Grady. But when people think of these games, forever and ever, those decisions will be the first thing they think of. Including Grady and Showalter, I daresay.
  6. That implies that the chances of Jimenez being scored on and the chances of Britton being scored on were roughly equal.
  7. Certainly worth considering, when the fellow at the plate hit 37 long balls this year and the fellow on deck had 42.
  8. Any way you slice it, it's sheer madness at that point in the game, with the season on the line and the Jays best hitters coming up, to put it in the hands of guy with a 5.5 ERA when there's a guy with a 0.5 ERA ready to go.
  9. I would trade JBJ straight up for Sale, simply because I see no realistic better options for obtaining a starter of that caliber.
  10. Now you're not making any sense at all. WTF, I didn't count Britton twice, I just swapped the order for you. And he pitched 2 innings once this year and 1.2 innings in the last game of the year - needing only 20 pitches.
  11. OK. Before going to Jimenez, Showalter used: 1. Brach - reliever with a 2.05 ERA this year. 2. O'Day - reliever with a 3.77 ERA this year, 2.41 career. If Britton had pitched earlier, one of these guys could have been used first, instead of a starter with a 5.44 ERA this year. If Britton could have pitched 2 innings, Jimenez wouldn't have had to pitch until the 13th. That's all you can do-postpone the bad option as long as possible and hope for runs. The Jays options would be getting worse and worse too.
  12. Theo gets a half-share for 2013. Duquette gets a half-share for 2004. Everybody gets something, Theo still has 2.0 titles.
  13. It *might have* cost his team the game. We've had that discussion before, how we never know what might have happened. I adamantly think Britton should have pitched the 11th. He might also have been able to pitch the 12th. You just can't leave him out of the game in a season-deciding game. It's a case of not giving yourself the best chance possible.
  14. That's why we like to call it a crapshoot.
  15. Theo just got a 5 year extension from the Cubs...he's getting paid like a damn player-$10 million a year or something crazy. Dude is doing alright for himself. I'm glad he didn't defect to an AL team.
  16. Christ, the Big Papi party went on all season, and look at the season he had, and we won the division. Buckley is a sportswriter and these guys feast on negativity, it's part of the job description. Think for yourself.
  17. But you are no ordinary man.
  18. Golf is a physically demanding game, seriously, when you play 4 rounds in 4 days on the monstrous courses the PGA guys play on and you walk every inch of it. The average man would be in tears by the end of it.
  19. Saturday the Jays starter was a lefty...Hill and Young usually started against lefties...you're right, the facts are there.
  20. Nonsense. That last series against the Jays, it was regular lineups. They lost 2 out of 3, all close games, to a playoff team. There's no indication they weren't trying to win those games.
  21. So maybe Francona had a bad year in 2011 - I can concede that. It doesn't alter the fact that his overall record since 2004 is fantastic.
  22. I think what *may have* happened is that the team 'peaked too soon', as it's sometimes put. It was kind of natural for them to have a letdown after the 11 game winning streak that sewed up the division. Maybe they went a little flat emotionally. Who really knows? A lot of this stuff just can't be measured - the 'human element'.
  23. I think a700 should go back to the Clint Eastwood avatar. It suited him perfectly.
  24. Fun Fact: Yesterday's games featured starts by Price, Kershaw, Scherzer, Lester and Cueto. Total price tag: 927 million dollars.
  25. I thought the checked-swing punchout that started the 9th inning for the Giants was a bad call. The hitter didn't let the bat get parallel with his arms.
