  1. Iggy is on pace to collect his 100th major league RBI sometime around the middle of next year. Quite a milestone!
  2. The fact that he's a starter on a 'pretty good team' doesn't mean anything. As has already been brought up. Lugo was the starter on the 2007 champs.
  3. 2016 is the 6th time the Sox have been swept in the playoffs since 1988. 1988 1990 1995 2005 2009 2016 Just be ever so thankful for those 3 beautiful rings...
  4. They weren't hell-bent on trading him. It just so happened that when they were trying to swing a deal for Peavy, in a 3-team trade, Iggy was what they had to give up. This is not Jeff Bagwell we're talking about. Iggy is a slightly above-average player who has missed one full season plus chunks of 2 others and has a modest career WAR of 5.6.
  5. That is true, but his 'initially' is getting a little long in the tooth. And there are no guarantees how many more chances he'll get.
  6. Just for clarification, they didn't lose 9 straight, they lost 8 of 9.
  7. The Peavy trade always has to be put in the context that it was a deadline deal made by a team trying to win it all. You will normally overpay on one of those deals. The Sox won the World Series that year. We can argue forever whether we would have won without Peavy and no one will ever know. But the point is, the deal falls into a different category than an offseason trade.
  8. Cubs/Dodgers looks like a tossup right now. Cubs have an edge in the pitchup matchup tonight, but there's also more pressure on them to win tonight because the Dodgers have Kershaw for Game 6 and Hill for Game 7.
  9. So basically Iggy > Shaw/Pablo. Probably so, but it's not much of a difference, and it all depends on Iggy's durability, which hasn't been good, etc. etc.
  10. What the Sox got out of Peavy in 2013 was exactly what they were looking for: a solid #3. 10 starts 64.2 IP (excellent) 4.04 ERA 102 ERA+ 1.16 WHIP
  11. Iggy's WAR of 1.8 in 2016 and 5.6 for his career identifies him as an average all-around player.
  12. Like I said, there's always a rationale. There was a rationale for the 70 million offer to Lester. They thought he was serious about the hometown discount, it was just a starting point, they used the Josh Beckett extension as a comparative. There was a rationale for selling Babe Ruth too. He was a boozer with a questionable attitude and Frazee got 100 grand for him.
  13. I can talk about this trade all day and be perfectly comfortable about it, because Iggy just isn't that good as an all-around player. He's a plus defender, but his offense is so bad that he nets out to an adequate, average player with a WAR of 1.8 this year and 5.6 for his career. He only made 2.1 million this year so he was a decent value for the Tigers.
  14. Crazy 8's are popping up everywhere with these numbers.
  15. Now that the Jays are out, we have these slightly freaky numbers: Cubs-last won in 08-108 years ago. Guardians-last won in 48-68 years ago. Dodgers-last won in 88-28 years ago.
  16. These dominant bullpens sure can take a lot of the suspense out of games though.
  17. Can you tell us where Iggy ranks in WAR since we traded him?
  18. Let it go man, seriously. Life's too short.
  19. He'll be very pricy I expect. You'd think the filthy rich Dodgers would be quite interested in retaining him.
  20. I thought they should have signed him too.
  21. At the moment it feels like the most exciting baseball of this season is behind us. Neither of today's games has been especially entertaining.
  22. I believe that FanGraphs calculates the dollar value per WAR based on actual free agent contracts. So I think what's going on is that the seemingly inflated dollar values results from so many free agent contracts being busts, which makes the guys that actually perform worth a ton.
  23. There's always some reasoning behind a deal.
  24. Cubs might be in deep trouble. Their offense is being shut down hard.
