  1. This is wrong, moon. As sk7326 said, Drew had a fine season here. He didn't pluralize. Nobody liked Drew in 2014. He stunk in 2014 and that dragged down those numbers you're citing.
  2. As has been said many times, the back end of these deals is seldom good.
  3. The reviews on DD's first draft have been pretty favorable.
  4. 700hitter got it above - Vern Stephens.
  5. The Red Sox component of this Cubs team is a little amazing. Theo, Rizzo, Lester and Lackey. Theo sort of traded Rizzo to himself, didn't he...sly little weasel that he is.
  6. Terry Francona is and was a great manager, and we lost 2 3-game sweeps under him too.
  7. 4 straight division titles, you can't ask for much more than that. The playoffs are a crapshoot. I don't know if it's fair to call 4 straight division titles the product of a 'win now' mentality, when not many teams have done it.
  8. That list doesn't reflect badly on Dombrowski. 4 out of the 6 are his, and 3 of those 4 have been pretty good players, I'd say.
  9. Jansen is a beast though. 7 from Kershaw and 2 from Jansen would be perfect for the Dodgers.
  10. It was a weak AL rookie field. He would have finished much lower in the NL that year. Luck of the draw. And while Sox fans were pleasantly surprised with his BA, anyone that had even a glimmer of knowledge about baseball stats and analysis knew he was going to regress sharply at some point.
  11. Iggy bears no resemblance to a baseball Mercedes, it's an absurd comparison. He's a slightly above average player, when he plays. A Mercedes is a guy like Betts, an elite talent. Trading Bagwell for Anderson, that was a disastrous deadline trade. This was a good one. I've been highly critical of Cherington for some other moves, but never this one.
  12. I hope the Iggy fans read this and have a response for it.
  13. Peavy also had Quality Starts against Toronto, Tampa and Baltimore that didn't result in wins. He didn't have one start less than 5 innings. Iggy was a 'Mercedes price'? Now that's just hopelessly delusional.
  14. Yeah, it sounds like Ausmus is really in love with Iggy, doesn't it?
  15. And another thing: playing the 'Well, I think we probably could have won the World Series without Peavy' card is pretty bad. Nobody will every know that, but Peavy was a good solid #3 which we needed badly with Buchholz on the shelf. Peavy took the ball every 5 days, averaged 6.4 innings per start, which was good for the bullpen, and posted a 102 ERA+ like a #3 is supposed to do. He was also reportedly a good clubhouse presence. It was exactly the move that we didn't make in 2011, and probably cost us the playoffs that year.
  16. Let me make one thing clear. We didn't get equal value on the trade. It was a classic deadline deal. And it did make me nervous at the time. But IMO, Iggy has turned out to be not as good as some of the early prognostications suggested.
  17. I read a number of comments late in the year about JBJ making bad or ill-advised throws.
  18. I'm not spinning anything. I'm not the one who calculates WAR. And yes, his health and durability are significant issues.
  19. What I'm telling you is that IGGY ISN'T THAT GOOD. I know that when you think of Iggy you see nothing but spectacular inning-ending plays, but his very modest WAR numbers reflect the hard cold realities of his overall contributions. Sorry.
  20. The thing that the Iggy mourners are in denial about is that he just isn't that good. He has a 5.6 WAR in 401 games. By comparison, Brock Holt has a 5.3 WAR in 379 games. Almost identical values.
  21. Cherington is generally regarded as a very patient type. Dombrowski is generally regarded as Mr. Win Now. There is some definite irony in Cherington taking heat for moving Iglesias to Dombrowski.
  22. It's not likely any team wanted Middlebrooks at the time. He was on the DL and his 2013 OPS was .617. You have to be realistic here. The other teams aren't run by suckers. They want something back.
  23. Yes, he did have a Sandy Leon run. When Leon was en fuego this year it was very reminiscent of Iggy's run. One of those freakish streaks in baseball that has to be enjoyed while it lasts like a shooting star.
  24. Don't they though?
