  1. 2013 was a bit fluky on the pitching side, considering that in 2012 Buchholz had the best ERA on the staff at 4.56, and the only addition we made was Dempster.
  2. A few points about Miller: 1) 2014 was his breakout year. In 2012 and 2013 he was just a good reliever. In 2014 he became an excellent one. But that was the only excellent season of his career to that point. 2) Up until 2014 Miller was not a closer. He had 1 career save prior to 2015. 3) We were bidding against the Yankees. It's kind of humorous to think that because they paid him 4/36, an offer of 4/40 by us would have 'gotten it done', as if the Yankees would have just turned tail and walked away.
  3. The 07 team had a +210 run differential, better than both the 03 and 04 teams.
  4. Don Baylor was a great pickup that year. Should have pinch-hit for Buckner in Game 6!!!
  5. If you add in the signing of Bogaerts in 2009, the 2008-2011 acquisitions make a fairly strong group, in spite of some very weak drafts.
  6. It was $9 million * 4 for Miller = $36 million, for a reliever who was considered more of a setup guy at the time. And it was a mistake not to sign him. $13 million for a starter is relatively cheap these days, especially when it's only a 1-year deal.
  7. I think Torrez is about the only example of a Yankee player being snatched by the Red Sox when he was a real hot commodity. He had just won 2 games for the Yanks in the 1977 Series, both complete games.
  8. David Cone, if you allow guys that were virtually done by the time we got them.
  9. His place in baseball history is much larger now than it could have been by staying with the Sox.
  10. Theo is living the dream now.
  11. As sk7326 said, the ideal thing would be for Buchholz to start the year in the pen. When one of the other guys goes down, he goes in the rotation.
  12. People can fault him all they want. He acted in his own best interests, sure. It worked out pretty well for him. I somehow doubt he regrets it.
  13. Theo hit the jackpot when he went to the Cubs. He got all the power he wanted, more money than he dreamed of, and he gave the Cubs their title right on schedule in 5 years, cementing his legacy and securing his place in the Hall of Fame.
  14. If he was 'below average' for the last 7 years of his 9-year tenure, he can't also have been great.
  15. Dojji, in case you haven't noticed, buddy, we have no starting pitching depth, unless you count Henry Owens. moonslav's post above illustrates the need for #6 and #7 starters.
  16. Clay will probably celebrate by spending the next month smoking Acapulco Gold and playing video games.
  17. That was Lucchino too. Larry very bad man.
  18. That just doesn't make sense. It might if you go through and grade each move from 2005-2011, which is what I think you're doing. I think he should be judged primarily on the team's record, the title, the 2 ALCS appearances, the 4 playoff appearances, the average wins per season, and the state of the team and the farm when he left.
  19. Some of it is good fortune, but he has definitely achieved something monumental. No other executive in sports history can boast a similar achievement.
  20. Kimmi can hold a grudge too...she will never forgive Damon.
