  1. There are no guarantees of winning the ring no matter what you do. The Cubs were the favorites this year and they won, but look at what they had to do, coming back from 3-1 in the WS with the last 2 games in Cleveland, winning in extra innings in Game 7. The more times you make it to the playoffs the better your chances.
  2. BC made some blunders, but I don't get the comparison to running the team like they were the Rays. He signed a bunch of free agents in 2013 that helped us win the World Series. He spent a fortune before the 2015 season. It was the combination of the spending and the crappy results that got him axed.
  3. There are no more dynasties in baseball anyway. Your team was the last repeat winner in 2000. 16 straight one-and-done since then.
  4. I'll be one of the few lamenting if/when they trade Buch, I guess. C'mon, keep the little bastard around for just one more year. He might come in handy.
  5. What else can you do for fun if you're a Mariners fan? Even if you're a generally level-headed guy like harmony, there has to be some underlying bitterness there.
  6. He was in fact drafted by the Red Sox. Traded him for Boddicker in 1988.
  7. Maybe. Personally I don't think it's a big deal if they go over the limit a bit, because if they can get back under the limit for 2018 the rate will reset then.
  8. Still great times to be a Sox fan. As it has been since Henry bought the team. 2017 will be his 16th year of ownership. Say what you want about him, but he's been trying to do stuff to win championships from Day One.
  9. Small sample, but Moreland has great numbers at Fenway. 45 PA's 341/378/683
  10. That was me. Here is the exact question I asked. Question: DD takes a lot of heat for decimating the Tigers farm system. But did he trade away many prospects that went on to become stars? (Or was it just poor drafting and losing picks through FA signings?) I don't think Andrew Miller should count, since it took so long for him to emerge as what he is now.
  11. Thank Kopech for looking so good...
  12. I was afraid they would have to include JBJ. Doing it for prospects only is pretty good.
  13. It's 'UN-BE- f***ing-lievable!!!!'
  14. Kimbrel and Thornburg, but who else?
  15. Seems like a good deal. Alright Dave!
  16. Rosenthal says Thornburg.
  17. We keep calling him the #6 starter here, but the Sox might be just looking at him as one of 6 starters, who might end up as the #3 starter like he did this year.
  18. I was never opposed to us signing Hill.
  19. I thought maybe the new luxury tax rules would put the brakes on the contracts a little. I don't see how they can continue to grow at this rate. I've been reading about the NFL's TV ratings being way down this year. Monday Night Football is down more than 20%.
  20. $48 mil.
  21. Which would be incredibly stupid. JBJ was a 5 WAR player this year.
  22. If the team isn't going to spend a lot of money or make a big trade this offseason, we really need to hope for a couple of 'little miracles' like Clay and Panda having good seasons.
  23. You're right. Realistically we can only afford to sign one guy like Ziegler.
  24. That was basically the question I posed to moonslav when he expressed disappointment about the rule change.
