  1. The Red Sox were clearly not motivated this year to go all out for home field advantage. Which led to an ad nauseum debate here about the value of HFA.
  2. You really are an impish fellow.
  3. This offseason will be a good test for Dombrowski's game.
  4. Alternating years was definitely random. I'm not sure it was much better or worse than using best W-L record.
  5. Re the bullpen: right now we are down Uehara and Ziegler from the pen that ended last season, so we have to add 2 pretty good relievers just to get back to that. I'm not trying to be a downer, but the reality is that we are hamstrung financially this offseason. We're more in a position of trying not to drop off too much from last year than we are able to get better.
  6. If Young is DH'ing, of course, he can't be also taking Beni or JBJ's spot against a lefty starter.
  7. Whoa, grab him. Depth candidate.
  8. The loss of Ortiz is the loss of 5 wins, all on the offensive side of the ball. That's not really so easy to make up. We may have improvements from some players, we may have regressions as well (Porcello, for example.) Dombrowski has his work cut out, honestly.
  9. Re-signing Ziegler would be nice.
  10. Right you are.
  11. I think what they will probably do is make one acquisition and throw stuff at the wall for the remainder.
  12. Like the one Wakefield had. Good thinking.
  13. I just read that the Red Sox reinstated Workman from the 60-day disabled list in November. I think that means there's still hope for his return.
  14. So we should keep him.
  15. OK, but I'm saying, why be concerned about the World Series inequity when the same inequity exists right from the opening round.
  16. OTOH if the series only goes 5 the home team gets one less day than the visiting team.
  17. You just explained why it wasn't 'fair' that Cleveland had home field advantage against us in the division series. Compared to that the World Series home field advantage is a smaller deal.
  18. Agreed, that attitude stinks.
  19. For Miley and Aro. Miley was coming off a 2.5 bWAR and was under control for 3 years quite cheaply.
  20. Sure it is. That applies to the other rounds of the playoffs too. The luck factor tends to even out, presumably.
  21. Yeah we're certainly not getting 2 quality relievers for Buch.
  22. Sorry buddy, but you're in a big-time minority there, I think.
  23. And what would you expect to have to give up for them? To get a guy like Duffy or Shoemaker you'd have to give up plenty. I thought those were exactly the kind of trades for pitching that you don't like (Pomeranz).
  24. It's certainly possible, but our lack of starting pitching depth would be a major problem.
