    I've taken my fair share of shots at Pablo. This time I thought he had done the things he was supposed to do and I was pulling for him. Hopefully this injury isn't anything serious. The guy seems snakebit now on top of everything else.

    I think the best way to settle this s*** between us and Baltimore would be for the managers to get in the ring for 3 rounds, with gloves, and try to knock each other out. I'd have to put my money on Farrell - with that lantern jaw he'd be tough to take down. But I'm sure Showalter would have a few dirty tricks up his sleeve.

    If all our pitchers were healthy at the same time it would be a beastly staff. That's a mighty big if obviously.

    Terrible signings, but I can't believe it was principally Cherington's idea to sign both those guys. It's pretty obvious the boys up top wanted to spend after the last place finish in 2014.

    So what - you think Barnes was acting totally on his own and that Farrell had nothing to do with it?

    No matter how bad the signing looked and has turned out to be, you couldn't really foresee Pablo being quite this bad. His 2014 season was not terrible at all. He got off to a very slow start but finished strong, then had another hot postseason. So it's not unreasonable that they wanted him back.

    First let's see if the O's throw at one of our guys in the upcoming series.

    I would assume that the suspension is the same as has been handed out for similar cases before. You can't just arbitrarily start jacking up the penalties without some sort of advance notice.

    If that's the case, Farrell not giving a stand down order is the same thing as him saying somebody has to do it, right? It's also worth noting that the retaliation didn't take place until 2 games later and when the Sox had a lead. The timing of these things is usually telling in itself.

    Beni is a key to the whole thing. Thus far he looks equal to the task.

    In a case like this does the Commissioners Office ask the manager if he told the pitcher to throw at the hitter? If they did it would be rather embarrassing because Farrell would obviously have to lie about it. I'm pretty sure Barnes got a signal of some sort from John. As has been noted, it appeared that E-Rod had made a couple of attempts to throw at Machado earlier.

    You're probably right. The Retaliation Code is the same as Omerta. If Barnes fessed up, his body would be found in a dumpster.

    The really ironic thing is that under the Retaliation Code, Barnes can't tell the truth about what his intentions were. If he said he was throwing at Machado's chest or back and the pitch got away most people would believe him.

    There's no need to freak out about this. We're 11-8, which isn't terrible, and we've got 143 games of baseball left. Yesterday was a good win other than the ********.

    Why f*** the righty/lefty strategy...it makes sense when you're into the other team's bullpen and they're trying to maximize lefty/lefty and right/righty matchups.

    Every GM would love to be able to trade guys at exactly the right time. It doesn't usually work out that way. It's like trying to time the stock market.

    One problem with these situations is that part of the code is that you have to lie your ass off. Barnes can't come out and say he was trying to drill Machado in the chest but the pitch got away.

    And our lack of depth at the position is such that even if they do decide to give Hernandez a shot they'll probably keep Pablo around.
