  1. His argument, though, is that the Yankees have had a tougher schedule.
  2. Strengthen the offense and weaken the defense. One of those 'pick your poison' deals.
  3. Weaver had some of the very best lines about baseball. Some are very wise, some are hilariously funny and some are both. The one you're referring to is this: 'The key to winning baseball games is pitching, fundamentals and 3-run homers.'
  4. Kelly has been outstanding since his first game mess. I was going to say he's a candidate for closer in 2019. But he's a free agent next year too.
  5. It's certainly possible. I'm happy that it's not me who has to make these kinds of decisions, to tell you the truth.
  6. Of course it's usually not a bad idea to look at what Mr. Epstein is doing. Last year he signed Davis to a one-year deal and got excellent results. This year he signed Brandon Morrow to a two-year deal and Morrow has been excellent so far.
  7. But there are hardly any closers who consistently, reliably post the kind of save percentage that Kimbrel does.
  8. They only scored 3 in the regulation 9 innings though...
  9. A big payout to anybody jeopardizes keeping other players. There are only so many slices in the pie. We're lucky that with the Red Sox it's a pretty big pie.
  10. Yes, in 2016-2017 Kimbrel was 66 out of 72. That's 91.7%. I'd be surprised if there were many with a higher % than that. Kimmi?
  11. It wasn't really meant to be a 'rest' game for Betts - it was about being careful with his hamstring injury.
  12. I didn't realize Thornburg pitched last night till just now. Apparently he looked good.
  13. Sometimes managers just flat out mess up. They make mistakes. They're human just like the players. They have an error rate. Sometimes they will even admit later they made a mistake. It's understandable. There are a lot of details to keep track of especially now with all the information being disseminated.
  14. He was pretty high in fWAR though, wasn't he?
  15. Welcome JBay. I know you're a good pick, because I usually agree with you.
  16. He may be getting hosed as far as a major league baseball career is concerned.
  17. Rivera pitched a lot of 2 inning saves in those postseasons for the Yanks. He was the 8th inning guy and the 9th inning guy.
  18. It's a very strange time to be bashing Holt. He has a .920 OPS and he had some big hits the last few games before going on the DL. He has an fWAR of 0.5 in 16 games, so he has already earned $4 million on FanGraphs dollars and is making about $2 million this year.
  19. That's not quite accurate. It's worst hitter out of your top 5, so 5th best hitter, basically.
