    Even if the column by Passan was valid, it was from early in the 2015 season. The last few years the reports on Hanley seem to be nothing but positive. So that has to be taken into account too.

    I think JBJ is a case where WAR does become a really useful measurement. JBJ's 2017 numbers worked out to a 2.2 fWAR. I'd call that disappointing (especially since his 2016 fWAR was 5.3) but acceptable.

    I think you have to be pretty patient with a guy who now has an .899 OPS in spite of the issues with lefties.

    The numbers suggest Holt is pretty close to average on defense overall.

    B-R has an additional split which is kind of interesting. It shows the hitter's numbers for games started by a LH or RH pitcher. Meaning that it also includes any PA's against relievers of the other handedness in that game. In games started by a lefty this year Beni has an OPS of .756 - not great but not horrible. One could argue that this just means you don't bring him into those games unless there's an RH reliever. But it's not always such a simple matter to pinch hit as you please during a game.

    Maybe. It would also make the 'coffee boy' comments ring a little truer. If Ben was being used like that he should have said something-borrowed Theo's gorilla suit or whatever. Not just skulked away.

    My 21-year old daughter is a big basketball fan and she has been convinced for years that some NBA games are fixed. So that's pretty sad.
