  1. That's kind of a Catch-22. If Joe was that rational he wouldn't be debating with those guys instead of being here.
  2. Castillo's salary of course is a sunk cost, his only incremental cost would be tax & penalty-related.
  3. a) There was a lot of uncertainty in January. The signing of JDM wasn't announced until Feb. 19. You don't know in January what your needs are going to be in July because of injuries or underperformance. c) Who are all these bargain pieces you keep talking about?
  4. The one, the only. He always reveals himself within about 3 words.
  5. It's tough to just give up on a guy you've invested a lot in. I think he gets one more start and if it's another bad one, it'll be the phantom DL with a strained lower back muscle or something.
  6. Yeah, it was pure garbage time. The cardinal rule is don't walk anybody, which they didn't.
  7. It has proven to be a very favorable contract though.
  8. He had a .75 ERA coming into the game. 'Tough crowd' is an understatement when it comes to these game threads.
  9. You're kind of a sick man, Larry.
  10. LOL I knew it was him right away too.
  11. One thing that gets forgotten, though, is that it was Lucchino who nominated Theo for GM after Beane declined. They had worked together in Baltimore and San Diego.
  12. I don't think he walks on water, but I think he's got a pretty nice track record.
  13. Option 1 would be a landslide winner there.
  14. Possibly worth noting in connection with this thread is that Twins center fielder Byron Buxton, winner of the 2017 Gold Glove and Fielding Bible awards, has been struggling so badly on offense this year that he's been optioned to AAA.
  15. San Diego was obviously holding out for a big package. Maybe DD could have whittled them down by one prospect if he waited them out. Or maybe someone else jumps in and gets Kimbrel. You're kind of making it sound like DD should have gotten Kimbrel for next to nothing.
  16. And what about Kimbrel?
  17. Not a full double whammy. Kimbrel's contract was actually below market considering what Chapman and Davis got. Maybe a 1.5 whammy...
  18. Empty the magazine is a good way to put it.
  19. I think it's mostly horseshit. Of course there have been some big mistakes, I'm not denying that. But if you're a long-term Red Sox fan and you're moaning and groaning about John Henry's stewardship of the team, you're basically a spoiled pussy. Stork is obviously not a Sox fan.
  20. Other than Moustakas, what big bargains are you talking about?
  21. I'm not really sure what you're saying. It's common for teams to wait until the July deadline to assess where they are and what their 'final needs' are. I'm suggesting that the Sox might be prepared to go a little over the limit and incur the penalties. You seem to be asking why didn't they go way over the limit already, like in the offseason, if they're prepared to go over by a little now.
  22. He's a pretty solid bat, especially against lefties. I thought he was a good pickup.
  23. Well, I have to admit, I'd prefer they didn't get De Grom.
  24. No way he's a Sox fan.
