  1. Chad Finn of the Globe asked Jeff Van Gundy who was the greatest between Jordan and LeBron. Van Gundy gave what I thought was a great answer, or non-answer if you prefer. He was passionate and also kind of funny. First he railed against the whole comparison thing-why are we so obsessed with these comparisons, why must we take the joy out of everything etc. He also complained about the obsession with numbers, because referring only to numbers diminishes the great athleticism and artistry that went into those numbers. He allowed that if LeBron plays a few years at this level he will have had the greatest career of any player, although that wasn't the same thing as being the greatest player.
  2. Great that Cora was able to get him out of the game today with a sub-100 pitch count.
  3. Moreland hasn't really had the dreaded cooldown yet.
  4. He's a lefty hitter though and his career numbers against lefties are not good, although his 2018 numbers are.
  5. Kopech got off to a good start this year but has been struggling badly of late, issuing a crazy number of walks. Last 9 starts - 40.1 IP, 6.69 ERA, 37 BB
  6. Nice to see the Rays playing the Yanks tough this weekend for a change, huh? 1 run for the Yanks in 2 games.
  7. It feels like there's a double-barreled threat of malpractice and misinformation.
  8. The Rays have a reliever named Jonny Venters. Sounds like a good name for a punk rock artist.
  9. Anyway, if the rumored investigation has any foundation, this would be a horrendous and sad story.
  10. Perfect LOL. I really set you up for that one.
  11. He sure gets excited when the Yankees are rolling, doesn't he?
  12. I know. It's terrifying whenever a Red Sox player, especially a key player, has one of these types of injuries.
  13. Kind of makes you pine for simpler times when they all settled for being chain-smoking alcoholics.
  14. And in 1986, the Mariners traded us Dave Henderson, who almost earned a Papi-like place in Red Sox history that postseason.
  15. Don't encourage the miserable SOB.
  16. They say we're looking for a right-handed bat and a reliever. It makes sense. And yes, there's a chance we go far.
  17. While we're on the topic of suspected drug users, if someone asked me to nominate the present or former Red Sox player that I most strongly suspected of smoking a lot of weed, it would be Buchholz.
  18. Devers has an .821 OPS over his last 16 games so his OPS is back on the rise a bit, in my cherry-picking Pollyanna view.
  19. And don't forget Duda...
  20. The Yanks have a slight edge on us in runs scored per game, 5.23 to 5.16.
  21. The Rays are not an easy team to score runs against, especially at their home dump. Over their last 10 the Rays have allowed only 27 runs, and that includes 4 at your place and 3 in Houston. I don't know how they do it, but they do it. Their offense is abysmal, needless to say.
  22. He can't just stay on his Yankee Game Thread, he gets lonely there.
  23. Nice thought, but a day at Talksox isn't complete until someone makes a silly trade proposal and Harmony assaults us with mind-numbing fWAR comparisons and multiple web links.
