  1. That's a real Catch-22. Because any guy that watches every pitch of every game would obviously be insane.
  2. Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater was another beauty, too, of course.
  3. I know, I wonder if this is just a way of being nice to Sam...
  4. I've actually come around to this line of thinking myself.
  5. Buck always runs his course, doesn't he?
  6. The dismantling of that team was sickening, but if you were a real fan you didn't have much choice but to stick with them. It's more like they're stuck IN you.
  7. LOL. I think Mookie was referencing back to 'setting the tone' when he said they didn't do it the last couple of years. All in all, he probably didn't explain what he was trying to say very clearly. I'm guessing he's trying to say the team was lacking in focus or intensity or one of those qualities that are a little difficult to nail down.
  8. LOL. It would be nice if such decisions could be quantified with that kind of precision.
  9. Can't we just restrict this discussion to the known universe?
  10. Adding two guys that are well above average could be as much of a game changer as adding one Cy Young candidate.
  11. I will rectify that omission.
  12. I was a big fan of his as well. What a talent.
  13. Tony Armas - a name made up of 4 body parts.
  14. Kelly has also had some stretches of being excellent. It's not impossible for him to get in another one of those stretches.
  15. My point is that isn't really fair to reference the 'blow out game' aspect-and I have heard this numerous times, mostly from Drew-bashers. The score was 0-0 when Drew hit the slam. I also get your point.
  16. Conversely, one might argue that the reason the Cubs are done is that their offense failed them mightily.
  17. Quick prediction: Paul Molitor is the next Jays manager.
  18. Maddon made a brutal move choosing Heyward to hit in that critical situation instead of Schwarber. Game on the line and he chose the inferior hitter. Cubs fans are howling about it on the forum I checked.
  19. Why the hell would Maddon have Heyward hit there instead of Schwarber?
  20. That would be the worst. Phillies fans must have felt like their hearts were ripped out. Only 2 teams in the playoffs in those days. Gene Mauch was the manager of that 1964 Phillies team. He was also the manager of the 1986 Angels team that lost the ALCS to us after leading 3 games to 1, and by 3 runs in the 9th in Game 5 in their home park.
  21. Yes, that's fair.
  22. I certainly don't disagree that 2008 was his best. But I don't like playing the retrospective game either, as has been done with the 2007 grand slam. Someone could also argue, rather absurdly, that Damon's grand slam in 2004 wasn't that big of a deal since we won 10-3.
  23. Atlanta also had a nasty collapse in 2011.
  24. Clutchness was simply oozing out of J D Drew that game.
