  1. Probably so. But in this case it was indeed a fastball down the middle. Mookie swinging at it was the classic 'aggressive approach' that was supposedly part of our offensive upturn this year. Does that make any sense or is it full of crap? LOL
  2. It's a general thread for talking anything Red Sox. Why wouldn't Chris Sale's future with the team be one of the topics?
  3. A mechanical issue doesn't really explain Chris Sale consistently throwing 91 MPH fastballs from the get-go. I think he's hurt and he's doing his best to pitch through it.
  4. I truly hope you're right. But I have to say it, with Price on the mound, if things don't go well tonight's game thread promises to be a shitstorm of epic proportions.
  5. He's a fantastically talented pitcher, cp. But he faded down the stretch in 2017 and this year he couldn't even make it down the stretch. It's his physical soundness that's the issue, not his talent or his heart.
  6. Eh, based on results that is. Nunez had an awful game but he's been our best defensive third baseman this year, I believe. He was being lauded for his play that ended the ALCS. Devers is no lock to be error-free...
  7. I'm afraid notin is dead on about Chris being a huge decline/injury risk going forward. It's a damn shame, the guy is the ultimate beast when he's on, but he can't even pitch a full season when he's 'healthy'.
  8. So what? There were gifts on both sides. That's baseball.
  9. Game threads are frequented by some seriously depressing, whiny pricks.
  10. He had an excellent Game 4 against the Yanks did he not?
  11. And yet they're 111-55. Crazy game huh?
  12. Just comment on the game thread, don't start a thread about it.
  13. Betts has to be the #1 priority, no question.
  14. Great point.
  15. Correction, the Sox are only favored to win tonight's game. If you click to the MLB Future Odds page you'll see that Houston is favored to win the ALCS.
  16. But if JH simply says to DD, 'OK Dave, you've got $XXX to spend this year', then it's up to DD to choose how best to allocate it.
  17. But expectations have to be tempered by the fact we're actually an underdog on paper in this series. We're playing the defending champs, who posted an insane +263 run differential this year and then destroyed Cleveland by a total score of 21-6.
  18. Aztec Gods, baby. Just roll with it.
  19. Some guys do pitch well into their mid-30's - Verlander, Greinke, Lester being some current examples. Certainly the odds are agin it.
  20. I understand that view, absolutely. I think if we lose this series but give Houston a tough time it'll still be a successful season. On paper (run differential), Houston is the best team in MLB this year.
  21. But you're paying the guy big fees to invest your money, aren't you?
  22. Some good stuff here. I do take issue with the definition of 'worth', though. Worth is kind of a tricky word. People pay for a lot of things that they think are worth it, only to find they've been ripped off. Some folks thought it was very worthwhile to hand their money to Bernie Madoff. But when it comes to MLB free agency deals, you pays your money and you takes your chances.
  23. But you considered last year a successful season, in spite of losing in the ALCS, didn't you? In this context success isn't black or white. There are degrees of success. And a lot depends on the individual fan's expectations.
  24. Obviously referring to the idea that people can be motivated by being pissed off about having failed the last time...
  25. Hello Manny.
