  1. Oh dear, did I miss "Be Sensitive to Trolls Day"?
  2. "Yeah, that didn't help, I'll tell you that." - Dustin Pedroia on The Slide and its effect on his current health status.
  3. Some interesting stuff about Machado in this piece, including quotes from Matt Barnes and even Pedroia himself, on The Slide: https://nypost.com/2018/10/22/machados-next-free-agent-test-comes-as-world-series-villain/
  4. No they weren't, but their offensive contributions were Herculean. This question illustrates why WAR-type total contributions measurements can be important.
  5. The same Nostradumbass went on to predict that the Astros would own us. He really knows his baseball, that guy.
  6. It probably only makes sense against right hand pitching, I would agree on that.
  7. Power hitting may not be the key but offense has been a big factor in our success. We've won games by scores of 5-4, 7-5 and 8-6. Without offense those were L's.
  8. I don't think there's any inconsistency. dustcover was talking about moving Mookie to 2B for the whole second half of the season - all the time. What we're talking about now is 3 World Series games in a National League park. These are special circumstances. The other thing is that both JBJ and Benintendi have been playing at a very high level. JBJ of course was MVP of the ALCS. You kind of hate to sit one of them down for 2 or 3 games. By the same token, if someone said the Red Sox should have Kimbrel pitching 2-inning saves all season, you'd say they were crazy. But in a playoff game it's something Cora is obviously willing to do. Same as using Porcello and Sale in relief. Special circumstances.
  9. It's a risky move-mainly because of the injury factor. In the playoffs you might make a risky move that you wouldn't ordinarily make. It may not even be a good move now. A lot of people think it isn't. Above all it's something to jibber-jabber about.
  10. That's a legitimate reason for concern.
  11. Seems like a very reasonable position.
  12. If you're picking Russell you're definitely relying on the rings argument.
  13. If each of our opinions is as good as anyone else's, does that entitle each of us to make stuff up without a shred of evidence to base it on? A poster from another board, Joe Brady, used to say this: We're not entitled to our own opinions - we're entitled to our own informed opinions. I think he had it right.
  14. It's only an idea now because we can't use a DH in LA so JDM has to play RF. It's just a matter of trying to keep JBJ's and Beni's bats in the lineup over Kinsler's. It's being reported that the Red Sox are at least considering the idea, so they don't think it's entirely crazy.
  15. You're right, he is a bloody wanker.
  16. Nah. We're just talking about 3 World Series games here, maximum. By the same token J D Martinez, would not be playing right field for 3 games straight if it wasn't for these special circumstances.
  17. Greatest big man! Seriously, you pretty much have to have 2 categories for basketball players.
  18. Because he was so tall.
  19. Agree 100%. We're talking about a real pattern of behavior here.
  20. You're still fishing!
  21. And maybe that would have been for his family too. MLB is a game, but it's a hard job too. And let's not forget the guy had offseason shoulder surgery. Maybe there were some lingering effects. Maybe rest was the best thing for it. There are a lot of possibilities we don't know about.
  22. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt - maybe he decided to put his family ahead of baseball - would that be such a bad thing?
  23. To me one of the most interesting things was when Theo hired Manny to work with Cubs minor league hitters-I can't remember the exact job description. I thought it was pretty cool in the 'let bygones be bygones' dept.
  24. 100% right Youk. For some reason I couldn't resist posting that line.
