  1. As for 2025, the Buehler signing has re-triggered my optimism about the team's direction. This was a non-punt move, and to me it validates that Sandoval was also a non-punt move. And I think some more moves are coming.
  2. Personally I would never want to undo a deal that resulted in a ring, so I have no problem with Price or Lackey. Or Foulke for that matter, who was not much use in the second and third years of his contract with us.
  3. Sorry to hear about your loss, moon.
  4. And after posting an OPS of 1.062 for Worcester. Tough game.
  5. Not really fair to Lackey or the contract. His fWAR was much higher. He had a total fWAR of 12.7 for the years 2010-2015 (9.3 bWAR) - 1.3 of those years with St. Louis. Total dollar value per FanGraphs 92.1 million. Total salary 83 million. 2015 was the minimum wage year triggered by his injury, so it's only fair to count it as part of the contract he signed with Boston. The differences between bWAR and fWAR for pitchers can be so big that they can make analysis like this pretty inconclusive, of course.
  6. Really? You sounded like one of the more optimistic ones about the 2025 team not that long ago.
  7. Yeah, Teoscar is looking for his big payday, and why wouldn't he? Probably just a question of whether he gets the $55-60 million deal or the $65-70 million deal.
  8. The Dodgers have a pile of pitchers that they added to with Snell. I was a little surprised they didn't bring back Buehler but I guess the math just didn't work.
  9. Some would prefer Pivetta, sure, because he's more of the Steady Eddie type who will give you 160 innings and a 2.5 fWAR. Buehler OTOH has the potential to give us 5 fWAR but also the potential to spend at least half the year on the IL. So pick your pleasure or your poison. I like the Buehler signing, personally.
  10. It's still somewhat of a hodgepodge, but it's becoming a more interesting hodgepodge when you bring in new names like Crochet, Sandoval and Buehler. Really hoping they add a quality reliever now.
  11. moon, when you were a kid I'll bet you would have loved this signing. "We got Walker effin' Buehler. Let's effin' go!" But now we're like a bunch of old actuaries poring through reams of statistics and calculating probable outcomes...
  12. All of a sudden the Red Sox have 4 starting pitchers (Crochet, Buehler, Giolito, Sandoval) who have: a) never pitched for us before; b) recorded at least one season with an fWAR of 3.7 or higher.
  13. No room for Yoshida in the OF when we have Duran, Rafaela and Anthony.
  14. Seems like we're scrabbling together signs that they still care. Keep 'em coming!
  15. Burnes was kind of expected to sign later on from the start, I think.
  16. It was probably in the 'detent' position. 😁
  17. Great, great player. 65 is way too young, 3 years younger than me. RIP.
  18. After falling short on Soto and Fried, Henry might have decided to flip the Punt switch again. Sure looks that way.
  19. So going into Christmas, our biggest contract given to a healthy player is Chapman at 10.75 million. Our biggest contract period was given to a rehabber.
  20. We seem more like passive aggressive.
  21. Wong stinks, we traded his successor, we haven't signed anyone. We did trade for the Yankee minor leaguer who looks somewhat promising. But it's one more area of head-scratching.
  22. I think they can use up the rest of the offseason now debating about whether to make a big offer to Bregman and ultimately deciding against it.
  23. And Passan doesn't even list us a Front Runner for Burnes. "Burnes' suitors include the Giants, Blue Jays and Orioles," https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/43042910/mlb-offseason-2024-25-free-agency-trade-rumors-update-passan-arenado-bregman-burnes-alonso
