  1. Those are the top tier guys left alright. Next tier would be Herrera and Allen, both of whom have been top tier before.
  2. It does seem like a possibility still.
  3. I might argue that Pearce is not only a platoon but an insurance policy against Moreland's offense really sucking.
  4. We can hope so.
  5. It's called complacency, man. He's probably napping in some tropical paradise as we speak!
  6. That is true. OTOH you don't want to lose the division by a game or two because the pen wasn't upgraded early enough.
  7. The Suitcase Hall of Fame! I like it.
  8. If they do sign Machado and they do keep Tulo, the next question is what they do with Andujar.
  9. Fortunately none of us is running the team.
  10. Things have changed with the way offseasons play out. One thing I remember clearly about the Mark Teixeira (******* LOL) auction is him saying he wanted to have it done by Christmas...
  11. True enough.
  12. I'm with ya all the way on this one.
  13. I do get attached to some players, I will admit that. I will even admit that I hate the thought of star players going to other teams and putting up great numbers for them and winning titles and so on.
  14. Speaking of Mr. Kimbrel, I was surprised when I checked his Boston numbers against his Atlanta numbers and found that they are virtually identical in many key categories such as WHIP and K rate. The one glaring difference is the home run rate. It was double with Boston. Consequently his FIP and his ERA are higher.
  15. It might be a tiny bit early to pronounce him that, but I fully understand it. At the age of 26, in just over 4 seasons, he's posted a total of 30 or 35 WAR depending on the system. And he's done it by having a complete game. Plus a great attitude and all that stuff. He really is a franchise player that needs to be retained.
  16. 700hitter is correct. What you are getting at is that the extension kicked in in 2016. The existing contract ran until 2015. The extension was far too long, that's for sure.
  17. I just don't think the acquisition of even a top closer has ever been a big needle-mover as far as sparking fan interest and selling tickets. Even casual fans are smart enough to know that closers are basically just a piece in the puzzle.
  18. I think this is one of the reasons Cora is such a good manager. He seems like a guy who grasps the old school and new school and knows how to integrate them.
  19. Oh man I hate the 'we could have won without' game. It's an easy game to play after everything's over.
  20. Right. It was a baseball move. It wasn't a 'splash signing' to please the fans. I don't believe the trade for Kimbrel was meant to please the fans. Closers are not generally fan-pleasers by themselves-there has to be a strong pitching staff to give them opportunities to close games.
  21. I guess I just have a little more faith in his acumen than that. He's made some mistakes but I think generally he's done a pretty good job, and made some very sharp moves.
  22. I don't have all the facts, but I would assume there were some other teams in on Kimbrel. I tend to think there was a bit more logic in DD's process than what you're suggesting.
  23. I don't disagree. I just think the value of the 'reset' is a little overstated, I guess, because it implies that the team is going to utilize it to spend big all over again. Sort of like going off the bottle for a week so you can go on a huge bender right after that.
  24. There were plenty of chips left. Dave wasn't stopping till he cleaned out the farm, remember? And of course Price's arm issues have nothing to do with this particular debate.
  25. Personally I think we're a little hung up on the whole reset thing. What is the basic premise behind resetting? It's like this: get your tax rate back from 50% to 20% so you can spend big again and give yourself tax problems all over again!
