    Personally I think Loria was pretty much a sleazeball, but I thought the Stanton contract made sense for them. The only option was just letting him walk away.

    Also worth noting that the Yankees are now projected to be over the first threshold by about 5 mill without any further additions.

    As moon says, it enabled them to keep him for a few years. It was just about the only way they could.

    It would be kind of nice, I guess, if Machado ends up way short of what he was expecting. It was reported he came into the offseason thinking he might get more than Stanton's 325 million. I think his somewhat bizarre antics with the Dodgers hurt him in the wallet after all.

    Dombrowski may have calculated that there would be some bargains on relievers come February, somewhat like Moustakas last year.

    It's a little different. The Yankees signed him for minimum wage about a week ago. What would have happened since then? Give me some logic here.

    But Kimmi is right that the odds are that if someone has such bad judgment as to throw away 200 mill, they're probably going to throw away 220 mill if they had it.

    True. And I can't believe the Yanks still insist on their players being clean-shaven. It's getting a little weird.

    It's extremely hard to repeat, that's for sure. It certainly looks like the Red Sox, Yankees and Astros are going to be the iron again.
