  1. That's a good one alright.
  2. I like the idea behind WAR, which is to measure the total value of a player. With a position player you have hitting, defense and base running all rolled in there.
  3. What you're doing is not without merit. But you have to keep in mind the system is set up so that players make peanuts their first few years. Free agents are more expensive because you need them and you don't have any equivalent internally. It's true, though, that Harper's average WAR is a little light for what he expects to be paid.
  4. You're an instigator who can't resist stirring up s***. You know exactly what you're doing.
  5. Time to show BillyBabe the door again. He's a hopeless case.
  6. The real question is why you keep mentioning milkshakes. It's troll s***, needless to say.
  7. Yes or no, do you think former players in general would make better heads of baseball ops than Epstein or Dombrowski?
  8. OK, now you must answer this question: Does Dave Dombrowski's lack of playing experience impact his work as a team builder?
  9. Seems quite similar to the Nola extension. Good to see teams keeping their young talent around a little longer - even if it's the Yankees.
  10. Exactly right. This stuff does get political.
  11. Make it 3.50 equivalent ERA+ or ERA-, and it's a done deal. Actually, 20 'aces' seems just about right.
  12. XB bringing the personality! I like it.
  13. IMO Alex Speier doesn't need to have played much baseball to be good at what he does, any more than Dave Dombrowski does.
  14. It is surprising that Iglesias hasn't signed with anyone. But welcome to the new sucky offseasons.
  15. But having your first pick moved from the 30th spot to 40th spot shouldn't entirely destroy your draft, should it?
  16. Cue Swihart hitting .425 with a few dingers in the spring.
  17. Agreed. No one trades for Leon. My guess is that no one is very interested in any of our catchers right now and that's why we still have three of them.
  18. My option was left out of the poll - No Freakin' Idea!
  19. But no one averages 7 innings a start anymore.
  20. Nobody really knows an ace is, exactly. From my discussions on baseball forums over the years, the pitchers most people think of as aces are on a Hall of Fame track-guys like Kershaw and Verlander. So there really aren't very many of them.
  21. How about Hal Steinbrenner?
  22. I read all Sale's comments about Kimbrel and Pedroia et cetera. They were all bang on.
  23. Very sad news.
