Jesus Christ.
First, hometown deal doesn't necessarily mean you were born there.
Second, Harper signed with the Phillies.
Third, Mookie is also under control for 2020.
I don't understand the thinking that he's all about the money because he hasn't signed an extension yet. Any comments of his I've read just seemed level-headed to me.
Not really an extension because he was already under control for those years. This is one of those fancy deals that replaces the arbitration years and makes people's heads hurt trying to figure out what they really mean.
His splits were horrendous, no question.
But he's not lying about the fact that his pitch mix changed significantly.

A guy on the Yankee forum thinks all the cutters showing up there were actually sliders. Look at the decline in fastballs. Pretty sure Gray isn't lying just for the sake of trashing the Yankees.
Sonny Gray threw some nice parting bouquets to the Yankee coaching staff, saying they made him throw too many sliders.

Regardless, they were obviously staying away from any big dollar signings. It just so happens that Keuchel is still on the board, which couldn't have been predicted.
