    Take the small samples with a grain of salt. But if you look at bigger samples they make more sense. And good defensive players like JBJ benefit hugely.

    Pearce has hit lefties well throughout his career. It's a totally defensible move. He's not going to hit .133 all year.

    It's one of the reasons. The other is that the offense hasn't supplied any big leads. It's been a team effort clusterf**k.

    I believe that metrics people will tell you that with defensive WAR using small samples should probably be avoided.

    I would argue with your use of the word panic, more on a linguistic level than anything. I don't think a decisional flip-flop necessarily equates to panic. It certainly indicates some disorder in the process. But to me panic is a bit more extreme, it's people running out of a building that just caught fire.

    It's pretty crazy that the World Champs and 119 game winners are 24 games in and have not had one easy win yet.

    ERA is a little sketchy for relievers, because they pitch a lot of part innings and there are inherited runners and so on and so forth.

    With 2 home runs, 9 RBI and 4 walks (yielding a .400 OBP) in 5 games. Another illustration of why batting average alone can be totally misleading.
