  1. I think it's quite possible the Sox front office is now looking at the team as being a solid Wild Card contender and not much more. Statistically, the chances of catching the Yanks are very small. As a Wild Card contender you have a 'puncher's chance'. But you're not going to go overboard on further investment in the team.
  2. Plus, his head may not be in the right place, and getting traded to Boston right now is probably not going to help.
  3. I highly doubt the Sox trade a regular. I expect a modest trade for a reliever and that's it.
  4. That wouldn't make any sense because the Mets and everyone else knows our need is bullpen help.
  5. If the Yankees do not land a quality starter, Cashman is going to be taking some serious heat from NYY media and fans.
  6. Personally I think the (Woody) Harrelson family may be involved at some level.
  7. The Red Sox obviously like having a right handed bat available off the bench. Hernandez has done very well, but he's kind of redundant with Holt also playing well.
  8. Trading Beni would be sheer madness, frankly, with Betts and JBJ only controlled through 2020 and many talking about trading one or both of THEM...
  9. The bottom line seems to be that the truth in Papi's case is about as likely to be known as the truth in the JFK assassination...
  10. Here's a fresh story on the case from SI: https://www.si.com/mlb/2019/07/23/david-ortiz-shooting-boston-red-sox
  11. Our 1-5 hitters right now are about as good a 1-5 as we've ever had.
  12. 2 minuses on Andujar are that he has been awful on defense, and of course missing most of this season due to shoulder surgery.
  13. Good post, oldtimer. Hitting is really hard. J D Martinez is hitting .293 on the season. The way some people are talking about him you'd think he was hitting .193.
  14. Crickets on this thread are real.
  15. Why would the Jays do that, I wonder? It's been known they were looking to move Stroman for months now. You have to think they weren't being thrilled by the other offers. Strange days out there...
  16. Ice water in his veins.
  17. jung, the thing about the baseball is that everybody uses the same one. It's not like the steroids era when some guys were using and some weren't. Even if you're not a fan of OPS+, a discounting factor is not that hard to figure out.
  18. It was a gamble, that's for sure. But it was likely the only opportunity they had for an extension. A lot of players won't talk contract once the season starts. Based on Henry's comments, they didn't want to make the same mistake they made with Lester. This could turn out to be a different kind of mistake, of course.
  19. I do like that thinking too.
  20. It's a stunning development. I'm kind of glad he's not going to the Yanks. He could have really given them a boost. But I'm sure they'll get a good one from somewhere.
  21. So are they still looking to trade Thor or Wheeler?
  22. I'll explain Slasher's post. He's been crucifying Sox management over the fact that the press release about Eovaldi made it sound like he would be the closer right away.
  23. JD may never opt out. He's a DH who's about to turn 32 and will have a WAR of 2 to 2.5 this year.
