  1. I don't really disagree. I'll say this, if you look at 2018, our starting pitching depth was no better than it is this year. Johnson and Velazquez were much bigger helps last year.
  2. Bunting does still occur, though. And some say it should be used more, against the shift etc. And when bad bunt attempts are made, the 'lost art' thing comes up. I think Slash's point was valid.
  3. Underperformance can be a difficult thing to figure out. Take a guy like Porcello. I highly doubt that he isn't doing anything but trying his ass off out there every time out. Especially when you consider he's in his walk year and there's a lot of money on the line for him. He's not getting the results, but I don't think it's from a lack of effort. s*** happens.
  4. I hope we're both around to find out.
  5. One of the things WAR is good for, IMO...
  6. I'm in complete agreement. It's the unique skills and variables of hitting and pitching that make baseball so different.
  7. Oh man, that was a good one, Slash.
  8. Yep, nobody's perfect.
  9. The years matter too of course. Even when it's Mike Trout, 12 years is a long freakin' time to be paying.
  10. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but the curly-headed scribe already put in his vote for Romero.
  11. Hahahahaha OMG the stereotypes we Canucks have to put up with.
  12. On the other hand, they were 8.5 games out of a Wild Card spot only days ago and now it's 6. Things change quickly in this game.
  13. To me the fact that catchers can steal strikes just confirms that even the best umps can't really judge balls and strikes very well.
  14. Brady is clutch, no question. Being clutch in baseball is a whole different thing. It's a completely different kind of game.
  15. I think 22 mill for one of the top hitters is perfectly fair. The going rate for the top all-around players in the game now is about 35 mill. So you're paying about 60% of that. And you don't have as much injury concern.
  16. What if, hypothetically speaking, that DH was the best hitter in baseball?
  17. Johnson and Velazquez are not unseasoned at all. They pitched a combined 184.1 innings for us last year.
  18. Correct. The point is, IF Sale had had a strong 2019, like Lester did in 2014, he could have gotten a lot more. It's also worth noting that the deferred money in Sale's contract reduced the present value down to $128 million and an AAV of $25.6 million.
  19. You don't need to be a math whiz to know our chances our slim. Here's the thing, though. If the Sox get really lucky they might get to within 4 games going to September. Would anyone really think it was over being 4 games back with a month to go? Of course if we fall to 8 back instead we're toast.
  20. Cora was trying to win last night's game, which was absolutely the right thing to do.
  21. DD might lose his job but it won't be because of Sale. John Henry was 200% on board with this, as his comments about blowing it with Lester made eminently clear.
  22. It would not have cost us a dime if we wanted him back, means what, exactly?
  23. Let's not forget that Ottavino didn't just get 9 million, he got 9 million times 3 = 27 million. That said, Ottavino looks like a great signing for the Yanks at the moment. Probably the best of the larger contracts given out to relievers this offseason, I guess.
  24. Mike Trout is a god among baseball players. But the fact that he has surpassed his personal HR record on August 20 this season is just more evidence of the rocket ball.
