  2. Flags keep flying in the wind, though.
  3. Guys like Mike Shawaryn and Ryan Weber and Josh Smith have also made it to the bigs. It's not necessarily an indicator of success in itself.
  4. Mookie is certainly our best player right now. But in 5 years he might be a fading player still pulling down 35 million a year for 5 more years. These decisions aren't that simple.
  5. It does seem counter-intuitive. But the economics of major league baseball dictate some strange realities. Say Mookie comes to the Sox this offseason and says he'll agree to a 10 year contract (including 2020) for 350 million. Otherwise it's free agency. What would you do?
  6. That's impressive. But in the postseason things have been different. He has lost a number of games where the Dodgers scored 4 or more. Including Game 1 of last year's World Series.
  7. I think there's a difference between being progressive socially and being progressive technologically.
  8. Getting kind of technical there. You have to admit it was a stand pat team to start the year.
  9. I don't know, but if you really wanted to make a fun project out of it you could look at what the ChiSox got from the Cubs. Also, would I be a jerk if I pointed out that he didn't leave Chicago?
  10. There's nothing worse than a speculation stack.
  11. But Manny for Bay was basically a lateral move, prompted by Manny being a malcontent, not a baseball need to upgrade.
  12. Dombrowski was in a tough spot there. The rotation was depleted and the season threatening to fall apart. And Pomeranz was the best arm available at the time. Sometimes you get forced into an overpay. Just ask Theo, trading Torres for the Chapman rental.
  13. Standing pat, in itself, isn't a guarantee of failure. I keep bringing up 2007-08 as evidence of that.
  14. More trades like Sale? Not sure that was actually possible.
  15. I'm not sure if the Red Sox are ready to take that step, with such a nutso fanbase. I can see a woman as Assistant GM, one who has a serious role in roster construction.
  16. But what didn't work this year was mainly the starting pitching. What could salvage 2020 is Sale, Price and Eovaldi all being healthy and a good replacement for Porcello. And yes, I fully realize how unlikely that scenario is.
  17. I wouldn't interpret it as inactivity and malaise. I would interpret it as John Henry has decided not to reset and to try and win in 2020 - foolishly or not.
  18. Yep, the Hindsight Jury has acquitted the Espinoza trade.
  19. You should have seen Sawxheads. That was the ultimate message board horror show. It was an all-out war between the pro-Epstein/pro-Tito faction and the anti-Epstein/anti-Tito faction, which included PumpsieGreen, SeaBeachFred and Muggah.
  20. I wouldn't necessarily be excited, but I'd be surprised. That's something, isn't it?
  21. It worked out OK. But Pomeranz turned out to be a bit of a dud after a promising start.
  22. I don't remember Bigfoot. I remember 'Law' (not Softlaw), and his 'Theo chicks' routine.
  23. You're just a hard guy to please.
  24. Corrections: Shaughnessy only said that a few weeks ago when it was becoming obvious the 2019 season was toast. And by no means did everyone think he was a fool. I said right away that it had the ring of truth.
