  1. But what didn't work this year was mainly the starting pitching. What could salvage 2020 is Sale, Price and Eovaldi all being healthy and a good replacement for Porcello. And yes, I fully realize how unlikely that scenario is.
  2. I wouldn't interpret it as inactivity and malaise. I would interpret it as John Henry has decided not to reset and to try and win in 2020 - foolishly or not.
  3. Yep, the Hindsight Jury has acquitted the Espinoza trade.
  4. You should have seen Sawxheads. That was the ultimate message board horror show. It was an all-out war between the pro-Epstein/pro-Tito faction and the anti-Epstein/anti-Tito faction, which included PumpsieGreen, SeaBeachFred and Muggah.
  5. I wouldn't necessarily be excited, but I'd be surprised. That's something, isn't it?
  6. It worked out OK. But Pomeranz turned out to be a bit of a dud after a promising start.
  7. I don't remember Bigfoot. I remember 'Law' (not Softlaw), and his 'Theo chicks' routine.
  8. You're just a hard guy to please.
  9. Corrections: Shaughnessy only said that a few weeks ago when it was becoming obvious the 2019 season was toast. And by no means did everyone think he was a fool. I said right away that it had the ring of truth.
  10. Yes, but JD, Betts and JBJ all staying would actually be news. Some of this stuff is news either way.
  11. Do you remember the '14 games and counting' thread? That was in 2007. Someone went through all the game logs and with perfect 20/20 hindsight found 14 losses with moves or non-moves by Tito that may have cost that particular game. It was a classic.
  12. Moving one of them makes sense. Moving both of them is fire sale stuff when you're the Boston Red Sox. It's like telling the fans to get ready for a 2020 that's no more worth watching than this series with the Jays.
  13. But still, they don't even have a new head of baseball ops yet.
  14. Some of those 'analysts' are just being Captain Obvious. If we lose BOTH JD and Mookie this Off-Season, that will be a shocking development.
  15. Are they? That figures. He spoiled them with a title. Any chance he can be lured back to the Sox?
  16. I would add that they also think they can do a better job than the team's General Manager (or President) with the roster construction.
  17. It really is. I've never seen a team have a season like this. Not even close, really.
  18. If you think Tito is a great manager, it speaks well for your baseball IQ. When I first joined a Sox board in 2007, the thing that shocked me was how many people were ripping him.
  19. But what's interesting is that Theo has not been very good at drafting or developing pitchers either, with the Sox or with the Cubs.
  20. Ted Williams was not joking when he said hitting a baseball is really hard to do.
  21. You're a killjoy, man. You know there are going to be news items. -New head of baseball ops. -Will JDM opt out or not? -Will Betts be traded or stay? -What will they do about JBJ? -Will Holt be re-signed or let go? -Who will replace Porcello? For starters.
  22. There's no harm in having some optimism about him.
  23. Denny, you're a reasonable fellow. Let me just point out a couple of things: 1) moon is, I'm pretty sure, the only person who said Cora was the greatest, or who said it on a regular basis. 2) When he said this he kind of went out on a limb. He likes to make bold statements. It's common behavior on message boards. This whole thing about 'stop calling Cora the greatest' is kind of overblown.
  24. Well, we are guaranteed some news items this time around.
  25. Everybody wants to get rid of somebody LOL
