  1. Good article. Good point that second base is a riddle in itself. And that Bregman at second might end up being the best move for the defense.
  2. Yes, the inferring is off the charts.
  3. What did the reporter say was the source for this?
  4. Quite the leading question!
  5. 'Behind on his conditioning' - do we mean because of his shoulder issues or because he's out of shape?
  6. It's always been like that, it's just that we're inundated by it now because of the net.
  7. "Pretty much every" is a tricky one. I mean, there are quite a few games where you can point to defensive lapses as a factor in the outcome. The Red Sox have had some total clown shows on D the last few years.
  8. Yes, from all accounts it was massively uncertain that he would choose Boston. Considering that Detroit offered him $171.5 million, the Sox were kind of a long shot!
  9. Yeah, just totally impossible to say. ARod's bat disappeared in a lot of those postseasons they fell short, 2009 being the notable exception. When it comes down to a small number of games like it does in the postseason, I think it's usually the pitching or the hitting that decides it.
  10. They won 5 rings with Jeter after winning zero from 1979-1995. Pretty hard to make a case there.
  11. We're all entitled to our speculations, that's for sure. Personally I think Casas's stock dropped a lot last year because of a) the injury and b) the focus on the Sox porous infield defense and his contributions to it. As for Breslow lying about shopping Casas, I can't really condemn him for that. What's the benefit in being truthful about something like that? It's a no-win situation.
  12. If I had to pick just one thing that turned that series, I would go with Torre's decision in Game 5 to start the 8th with Gordon instead of Rivera.
  13. But we don't really know just how aggressively. If they really wanted to get rid of him you'd think some team would have taken him. Breslow was apparently asking for more return than other teams were willing to give. Is that aggressive?
  14. Anyway, the parallels between the Jeter/ARod situation and the Devers/Bregman situation can't be lightly dismissed at this point. The Yankees handled it with zero evident drama but plenty of outside criticism. The Sox are quickly loading up on the drama part.
  15. Jeter did have one other strength - he was sure-handed and had a low error rate. The stats certainly bear out that his range was abysmal.
  16. In hopes of getting juicy quotes, presumably.
  17. On what are you basing the "wholly disliked by Cora"?
  18. I don't disagree with the general point that Jeter at short was not the best arrangement. I just don't think Sox fans are in any position to accuse the Yanks of not caring about winning. The Yanks haven't been under .500 since 1992. The Sox have done it 6 times since 2012. I hate the Yanks but I respect numbers.
  19. I'm getting mighty confused here. How could Abreu and Duran possibly be a platoon when they're both lefty hitters? You're talking about fielding platoons?
  20. Abreu and Duran will definitely never be a platoon.
  21. Fine, but you were clearly using the fact they only won one ring to validate your point.
  22. Yeah right, because the playoffs have no crapshoot factor. Forget the regular season records. Only one ring = proof positive!
  23. This piece is pure garbage. When Jeter stayed at short, did that demonstrate the Yanks didn't care about winning?
  24. And loudly proclaimed that trading Arenado was a big priority, and failed to get it done.
  25. And the Cardinals got a solid F from The Athletic for their offseason work.
