  1. I'm not looking at it in a bubble, honestly. We had a lot of payroll coming off the books by the end of 2022. That's why Mookie's contract would have been doable if they were willing to give him the $400 million.
  2. Was it actually supposed to be Jeter Downs?
  3. That struck me too LOL He was in the Punto trade.
  4. Reportedly it was Matt Holliday.
  5. I think we may still have a shot at some records for highest staff ERA. With an asterisk, of course.
  6. I think yer right on all counts.
  7. Well, there's no hope when it comes to Mookie. He's gone forever.
  8. Yeah, there's always hope until there's none.
  9. And that little thing with Mookie becoming a Dodger for life...
  10. Even if all that was so, the Red Sox were in no way forced to trade Mookie.
  11. That theory just didn't make sense to me. It suggests that they weren't giving Mookie any thought at all when they did them. And then went "Oh, whoops"?
  12. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
  13. I don't think any fans, outside of maybe a miniscule %, root against the team while they're playing. Taking consolation from the future benefits of a bad record, that's a different story.
  14. We would have needed to pay some other starting pitchers, though. It's my belief Mookie's situation superceded all those things. I think they gave up on trying to keep him. And that may have been before the deals with Sale and Eovaldi.
  15. Sox75 - Thunder posted this in May. He has returned since then. Dates are important information.
  16. Sure he did. But I don't think the 3 contracts you mentioned are the reason we didn't keep Mookie. The contracts of Price and Eovaldi would have been off the books after 2022. Mookie's new deal doesn't start until 2021. It would be unbelievably short-sighted for a franchise with the Red Sox's money to have those two deals affect keeping Mookie.
  17. The fans, Henry's checkbook and Bloom's acumen are all assets, hopefully...
  18. Sure he did. But Dave has to wear them, unless we think they were ordered by Henry/Werner.
  19. Not at all.
  20. IMO, the reason we didn't pay Mookie is that we didn't want to pay him $400 million. Also IMO, that's the only acceptable reason.
  21. It's all on Dave, no?
  22. She was talking about next season.
  23. I have to say I understand the rationale behind not basing the draft order solely on this abbreviated and weird season. We should probably just be thankful it counts for the tax reset.
  24. I'll switch to Buffalo Wings.
