  1. And when the information came out about Devers being promised by Bloom he would only be playing third base, what did Cora say? He said "that was under a different management". So obviously Cora felt like he needed to defend what the team was doing.
  2. Except that's not the only thing he said. “So, are you saying if they asked you to DH, you won’t do it?” asked a Red Sox reporter. “No, I play third,” replied Devers. "Hell no" is not an irrational interpretation there IMHO.
  3. I disagree. It looks to me like the controversy was real and mainly created by the actions and communications from the team. e.g. they told us Bregman was being strongly considered to play 2B, but all he has played is 3B in spring games.
  4. To answer that we should be looking at what the interpreter said in that press conference and why it was interpreted the way it was.
  5. A better argument about what? You're losing me now.
  6. Sorry, my last comment was about the kids, not Devers.
  7. I don't see that one as a big deal. YMMV. It would probably have been fairer to say "reported refusal".
  8. Lester's contract was expiring. Lackey's had the year at minimum wage.
  9. To me it does seem pretty obvious Raffy got blindsided here, that he didn't really think Bregman was coming to town. And that's what led to all the issues. And that's on the team, isn't it?
  10. And I'm firmly in the "they're gonna do what they're gonna do" camp. 😁
  11. I have no idea about Lackey. But the fact they traded him does seem to make it plausible.
  12. It's not my intent to defend all media.
  13. Yeah but that's the clickbait aspect which we should all expect.
  14. Cora has confirmed that there were some private discussions after the Bregman signing involving Raffy, Cora and Breslow, and he won't reveal what was said in the discussions. Interpret that how you will.
  15. McAdam has sources in the org. He's been covering the Sox a long time. If he's hearing stuff it's kind of his job to report it, using some discretion, obviously, but as I say he seems like one of the reasonable ones.
  16. moon, "the media" covers an awful lot of territory. Of course there are a lot of clickbait artists out there. I would prefer we restrict it to McAdam, who is the guy kind of leading the way in the coverage.
  17. Yes, I absolutely think this episode was worthy of coverage. Devers is our highest-paid player, best hitter, and his contract runs until 2033. If he's feeling blindsided and angry at the guys he works for, that matters.
  18. Let's take this to the new thread about Raffy requesting a trade.
  19. I'm not really buying it. It's not the media's job to apply those kind of nuances when the actual words imply the worst case scenario. And as I said in the other thread, once Raffy realized his words were being misconstrued, if in fact they were, he had plenty of time to make a clarifying statement. I think if anyone is blame in this situation it's the team. If McAdam is right, they misled Raffy all along about the Arenado and Bregman rumors, and Raffy was blindsided when it actually happened. And after all the talk about Bregman playing 2B, he has only played 3B in the spring games. Plus McAdam seems to me like a pretty reasonable guy, not a muckraker.
  20. But we have a new thread for this now!
  21. What exactly did the media get wrong here? I'd like to see someone answer that.
  22. I don't think Raffy is totally blameless in this. If he thought his statements that were made through the interpreter were being misconstrued, he had ample time to set things straight. Just my take. And I like Raffy a lot and wish him no ill will whatsoever.
  23. No, that plan would have stunk too.
  24. In my opinion, the trade was ill-advised because of the lack of other moves with the rotation. I think if everyone knew at the time that all they were going to do was sign Giolito, most people would have criticized this trade.
