  1. Does this take him off "Rivera highway"?
  2. The whole point of the discussion boils down to the ridiculous idea that iortiz and a700 have in regards to Papelbon. He's not some mythical, irreplaceable beast. The Sox have simply not taken the right road in trying to replace him (IF Bailey keeps struggling). He wasn't worth the money when Philly signed him, and he's not worth the money and prospects now. There are other external and internal options that could be effective for a lot less money. I love how iortiz cops out of the money discussion by saying Papelbon has been worth every penny. He f***ing hasn't. He's a 1 IP relief pitcher.
  3. So Bailey (struggles aside), Tazawa, Uehara and the possibility of converting RDLR to an RP with the idea of closing aren't "numerous" internal options?
  4. Bailey's going through a rough patch, and nobody else has really been given the chance. As for the choke factor, i think there's a lot of rhetoric involved in that idea.
  5. Right, because spending that much money on Papelbon instead of proceeding like they did this offseason was a better idea. The very idea makes no sense.
  6. Doubtful. It's going to be really hard for them to climb into the playoff race with the way the Red Sox, Orioles are playing, with Texas/Oakland out West.
  7. What a bunch of nonsense.
  8. So the answer is to trade prospects and take on a bad contract for a position that you can fill from within? And how do we not have "one f***ing guy who can step up and do the job"? Even with Bailey struggling, they have at least three high-leverage arms in the back-end of the pen. The Papelbon trade talk is just mental masturbation to pursue a big name for the back-end of the bullpen.
  9. He's no Skip Bayless though.
  10. You can, however, show people the difference between a "fact" and an "opinion". A very important, yet simple distinction that is oh so difficult to grasp for some.
  11. So just to be clear, are balls going to be hitting walls tonight?
  12. I know we used to not get along very well but......please post more about baseball related topics. Pretty please?
  13. Does the idea turn you into a nervous Nelly?
  14. Ciriaco isn't a generational defensive talent. The comparison doesn't apply.
  15. Well i'm just saying you throw out some old-timey phrases that i usually find pretty funny.
  16. Nonsense. The Red Sox have plenty of guys who can get outs in high-leverage situations. Your perception of what a "closer" is is so skewed, you're asking about Glen Perkins, who's a middle reliever closing for lack of a better option. Every one of the Sox' back-of-the-BP members is a better reliever than he is.
  17. And all of them cost about half the money combined.
  18. SFF, here's what i don't understand. With Uehara and Tazawa in this BP, plus RDLR as an option, not to mention the possibility of this being just a bad stretch for Bailey, how do you justify sending prospects and taking on Papelbon's contract? Sell me on this.
  19. The problem is that none of those guys are on "Rivera highway". By not getting a guy who's on that "highway", the FO is obviously showing their incompetence. I mean, our FO sucks so bad that they turned a 67-win team into the best record in the AL so far. iortiz knows better though.
  20. I think MVP Jr. knows better than he does tbh
  21. "People will never understand this"
  22. There's nothing to understand. It doesn't make sense from any perspective.
  23. Not for the prospect package the Phillies are asking for him. Add on to that the crazy luck and declining peripherals plus the money, and why would you trade for him specifically? It's more mental masturbation than anything else.
