  1. Not to mention that inherently, WAR value calculations are often conservative in their projections of salary inflation throughout MLB. So if anything, he's probably slightly undervalued by the projections.
  2. Ok this got a chuckle out of me.
  3. What isn't subjective? So are your points. You don't know whether they could have extended him to his age 35 season instead of his age 38 one. He will obviously decline as a ballplayer, but they felt compelled to keep him after his prime years because of what he means to the franchise. There's no other explanation. Also, remember that with the way salaries are inflating in MLB, by the time Pedey starts declining, his salary may be a bargain. Since we play in the AL , he could always spend significant time at DH. As for the idea that a better 2B may appear, we should cross that bridge when we get there considering the usual scarcity of two-way players at the position.
  4. Pedroia is both a better player than Ellsbury, more important to the club, and less focused on money. The Pedroia extension is both a baseball and business move, as the Red Sox are protecting their brand by extending Pedroia long term. He is the face of this franchise, and will be so even more once Ortiz retires.
  5. That's because he had TJ, but initial reports are overwhelmingly positive on him.
  6. Pirates are a lot more viable as WS contender than they're given credit for, because of their pitching. If Grili's out for the year though, it would be a crippling blow, since they already needed RHP help in the BP.
  7. The Cardinals, Tigers, Red Sox and Braves will probably have something to say about that.
  8. So do the Red Sox when Clay comes back. Who do you bump out from the rotation?
  9. You know, we'd all get along a lot better here if we could sometimes stick to baseball without constantly poking others then complaining when others poke back, then subsequently telling them to stick to baseball, and defending the constant poking with "it was just a joke". You either keep it to baseball and stop the poking or ya don't. Just a thought.
  10. Color me surprised.
  11. This is a win-win situation for Red Sox fans: Either the Yanks get screwed, A-Rod gets screwed, or they both get screwed. I'm a buy me some nice cigars and smoke one at the conclusion of this saga.
  12. I made the comment which you referred to, and it wasn't supposed to be a big deal. If you've got issues with SR, sort it out with him.
  13. Between 4 and 6 from most updated rankings i've seen.
  14. Who said anything about flip flopping? I just said you're rational while posting regularly, and extremely emotional and reactionary in the GT.
  15. You can be reactionary without being a dick, and show emotion without being annoying. (Not saying you or SFF are being dicks or annoying, but i did find the difference between regular SFF and GT SFF curious, so i made the comment). You also seem to have a thing for trying to turn a simple comment into a contentious issue. No one is "holding" anyone accountable for anything. Stop.
  16. Answer to your own question.
  17. Both Dickey and Shields had a history of at least two years of prior excellence and a clean bill of health when they were traded. It's an apples to oranges comparison.
  18. ....and tonight
  19. Well you let me know when you find a foolproof method to forecast injuries, at least in Hanrahan's case. Because Bailey (who was acquired last year) was a walking injury long before they traded for him.
  20. I think what he means is 27 mill plus what they'll free up with Youkilis, Kuroda et al coming off the books. However, a lot of that will be allocated for the massive cost of re-signing Cano, who you can be certain the Yanks won't let walk.
  21. TL;DR. But in general, for every Sox over-performance, there has been someone under-performing or losing time due to injury. Almost everyone expected Papi to come and hit like he did last year, as long as he was healthy.
  22. No we don't. Because he is both. He's having terrific results, but his health history diminishes his value. Can't exactly the same thing be said about Clay Buchholz? Terrific stuff, great results, fragile as glass.
  23. He spent the first two months of the season making the same claim "Papi can't keep it up, Carp is over-performing, Napoli this" yada yada yada. At the time, it was the Tigers leading the league in offense, and the Sox have only improved their league-leading offense with Ellsbury finding his stroke, and Papi, Pedey et al raking all season long. Jacko has not made a single correct prediction this season.
  24. That don't mean squat. What matters is who's getting it done right now. Koji's dominating, and Papelbon is dragging his ass through saves.
